I Gave You Blood

Chapter 12 - Gerards POV

Chapter 12 – Gerard’s POV

I was sketching an image that had been stuck in my head for the last three days.
I watched in morbid fascination as two fangs burst their way through his gums.
I even managed to perfectly capture the arch of Mikey’s back, and the gleam of his brand new fangs.
I suddenly dropped my pencil as an overwhelming emotion of anger and frustration shot through me. It was definitely not my own emotion.
I leapt up and raced to Mikey’s room. I began pounding on his door frantically and calling out his name.
After a while of ignoring me, he seemed to calm a bit. I didn’t know what had caused the emotion but it couldn’t equal anything good.
I knocked on the door gently, hoping he’d respond now he was calmer.
Instead; deliberation, determination, fear, anticipation and a whole array of similar emotions shot through him. Oh no, this definitely couldn’t equal anything good.
I heard the window being wrenched open.
Oh no.
I began pounding on the door again.
“Mikey... what are you doing? Let me in!”
A whoosh of adrenaline, terror, exhilaration and eventually euphoria shot through me so strongly I almost fell over.
I gathered my senses and busted the door to his bedroom open. I saw an open window, and no Mikey except for a laugh coming from outside.
“MIKEY!”
I took off at an alarming rate out the window. When I landed, however, Mikey was already gone.
“Fuck,” I muttered in frustration, as I took off into the street following his scent.

~~

His scent was leading towards Frank’s house. I hurried my pace and as I approached I saw Mikey and Frank talking in the darkness. Mikey turned and headed towards the basement window.
I could smell the humans from here. And as I felt a jolt in our bond I realised that he was about to lose it.
I tackled him to the ground, and he let out a vicious snarl as he struggled. I tried in vain to hold him down but he was so much stronger than me that it was crazy. He flipped me over in one almost too easy movement. Billie was right, Mikey was elder material.
Mikey snarled louder as he pinned me to the ground and I freaked. Ashley and Pete, who I could hear talking from here, would soon hear us if he kept it up.
“Mikey,” I hissed quietly, “Shut the fuck up, you idiot.”
Mikey seemed to break out of his haze at my words. His snarling cut off and he was silent. I could feel his urge to enter the basement. It was flowing through him so strongly it was almost overwhelming.
“If you go in there, Ashley will be dead under a minute,” I warned him.
He stopped and stared at me, face blank with shock.
“What,” He whispered painfully.
“You’ll lose control and drain her. Then how will you feel?”
Mikey blinked and seemed to zone out for a second before he came to and looked at me again. I could him relaxing, loosening his grip on me. I almost sighed in relief.
“You need to come home, now,” I paused, knowing Mikey needed something to distract him, “Frank, can you come too.”
Frank thought for a moment before answering.
“I’ll need to get Ashley and Pete to go home but I’ll meet you back at the mansion afterwards.”
I nodded, slipping out from under Mikey and helping him to his feet as Frank retreated inside. We needed to get home and we needed to avoid temptation, so I led him the long way home which avoided the path most commonly taken to the Kensworth house. I didn’t want Ashley to be in danger more than once tonight.
Mikey stopped walking and turned to me, a desperate look on his face. I knew what was wrong with him. I could feel it.
“Gerard, I need to feed,” He whispered, the desperation thick in his voice.
I thought for a minute. Frank would be walking them home at human pace so we still had time before we had to be back, and Mikey was thirsty...
“Ok, but I have to show you properly. Don’t just jump at someone as soon as you see them. Listen to me, and wait for my signal, ok?”
I broke into a run, heading towards the nightclub part of town with Mikey quick on my heels. I hoped it wasn’t too early to show him this but I didn’t know how much longer he’d last on bagged blood. I’d gone two weeks before it was deemed ok for me to actually hunt, but Mikey was different. The vampire gene in him was so very strong.
I hovered in the shadows across the road from a nightclub. I scoped the area as the pounding bass drilled into my ears. There was an alleyway across the street, it was long and empty. It would work fine.
Suddenly, I spotted our prey.
“Now,” I said, pointing across the road, “See those two girls.”
I watched as Mikey’s eyes scanned across them. Warmth and hunger shot through me as I watched his eyes turn black. I didn’t need to feed that often but I was growing hungrier by the second. It was the anticipation.
I tried to concentrate on teaching Mikey.
“They’re moving quickly because they’re scared, and also, because they’re alone. They’re easy targets and though they won’t consciously acknowledge it, their subconscious knows,” Mikey’s gaze was fixed tight on them, “The fear sweetens the blood.”
Mikey nodded and I felt his desperation to attack, also the flutter of nervousness and fear. It was completely normal though, I still remembered the first time that I’d hunted, I had been so nervous.
I locked eyes with him and for a moment we just gathered in each other’s emotions.
Ok, now time for the next part.
I placed a hand on Mikey’s and for a moment my hand felt like it had pins and needles in it. I orbited towards my brother. So hypersensitive to the predator preparing to strike in him that I caught on, and the predator in me growled almost hungrily. I really didn’t have control over my actions after that. I moved close to Mikey and brought my mouth to his ear.
“Which one?”
“The dark haired one,” He replied, his voice thick with hunger.
“Go for the side of the neck. The thickest vein is there. I’m sure you can see it,” my mind was running wild with images of the hunt, my pulse began to increase, “Grab them, snap their necks, drag them into the alleyway.”
Mikey tingled and I knew then that we had to go now. He couldn’t wait any longer.
“Go,” I whispered, and shot across the road. Euphoria pumped through my veins as finally being able to go, and I grabbed the redheaded girl and snapped her neck in a quick motion. I pushed the broken girl to the ground by the dumpster and eagerly sunk my fangs in. I sucked in the liquid quickly and my body felt so warm. All I could register was the warmth, and also the faint sucking, feeding sound very near me.
I finished my meal and turned to see Mikey watching me. The tiniest smudge of blood sat on his top lip. His cheeks looked almost rosy.
“What do we do with the bodies?”
I pulled the lighter and Billie’s hipflask from the pocket.
“Nice hipflask,” Mikey commented.
I explained the origins of the hipflask, as I set the bodies alight.
“Come on, by the time the cops find them they won’t even be able to see the bite marks.”
I grabbed Mikey’s hand as we made our way home in silence.
Mikey grew quieter as we arrived home, and I felt the itching urge to say something to kill the silence between us as Mikey reached his door.
“Mikey,” I grabbed his hand to stop him, speaking quietly, “Please don’t do that again until we’re sure you’re under complete control. If you want to go hunting just let me know anytime and I’ll take you.”
Mikey nodded. I still felt bad.
“I’m sorry, Mikey. I remember what it’s like. I know it’s hard,” I hugged him tight, not knowing how else to make things better. But as we hugged, a golden glow spread through the both of us. I could the contentment in both my brother and I... until the warmth reached my belly and i went into full panic mode. I ripped myself away from my brother.
We both stared as my mind raced.
This wasn’t right. What even was that? I mean, I knew what it was but where did it come from.
This had never happened before the change-
It suddenly hit me like a pile of bricks.
No, that wasn’t possible.
“Gerard, what was-”
“I got a great idea for a drawing, “I fumbled. I had to get away. “Frank will be here soon.”
I bolted back to my room before slamming and locking the door behind me.
I sensed Mikey’s immense confusion.
I could sympathise right now. I mean, this wasn’t even possible!
You couldn’t know for sure until you kissed someone.
You wouldn’t know for sure, and it just can’t-
We were brothers, for goodness sake!
This was just too wrong...
I knew the facts, from what I’d read in vampire health class.
But my little brother couldn’t possibly be my mate...
