Falling Skies
Someone or something
They walked back to the gas station in silence, too flustered to talk and not really sure what to say to each other anyway. Sky knew that she was dangerously close to being in denial about this whole thing, just because she couldn't understand. Just because she didn't get all the answers. Stubborn as she was, it made her angry that what the Phoenix Witch had told them was not what she had wanted to hear. She didn't even realize she was crying until she slipped and fell due to the tears that clouded her vision.
'Sky!' Poison came running over to her to help her but she pushed him away, more harshly than intended.
'I'm fine!' she wiped the tears away and saw that she had scraped her knee, blood running down her leg. It made her even angrier.
She knew she was wrong in letting her anger out on him. None of this was his fault, he had just seen and heard the same things she had and was just as confused. And now he was also hurt by the way she was treating him, it wasn't fair but Sky couldn't think straight. Again, he stepped towards her but she got up by herself, still shaking but continued to walk, ignoring her injury for now.
Jet and Kobra were waiting for them outside the gas station, looking at her obviously wondering what had happened but she just walked inside without greeting them, leaving Poison to deal with them. She didn't care, all she wanted was to be alone.
About ten minutes later, she heard the door open, then close.
'Go away.' she just whispered, her hands covering her face.
'No I won't.' Poison replied and she heard him rummaging through his backpack. 'I gotta take a look at your knee.'
'It's nothing. Leave me alone.' she mumbled, knowing that this time he wouldn't back off.
'Sky, stop acting like a baby. I get you're angry. Tough shit! Get over it. Punch me in the face if it helps you but don't fucking push me away.' he grabbed her leg hard, forcing her to sit up. 'And now let me take a look at your knee.'
She stared at him while he unpacked what he needed from the first aid kit, placing it on the bed next to her. Then he started cleaning up her knee as well as her leg which was covered in blood and dirt. Sky could tell he was pissed off now but he still treated her as gently as he could. Definitely not what she deserved after how she had treated him. Of course she felt bad. Without him, she would be dead. She had known he was her soulmate long before the witch had told them.
'I'm sorry, Poison.' Sky finally said when he had finished bandaging her knee.
*
He wanted to give her a speech. About how it wasn't fair that she had gotten mad at him. About how he was just as emotional as she was about this whole thing and it was unfair that she had tried to shut him out when really, they should be dealing with it together. He also considered giving her the silent treatment and make her work for his forgiveness. But as she looked at him, tears still rolling down her face, all he could do was push her back down on the bed and kiss her.
It took her by surprise, he could tell by the way she hesitated but it didn't take her long and she was kissing him back eagerly, her arms wrapping around his waist, pulling him down on her. This time, he didn't care about how his body gave away his excitement and Sky didn't seem to mind either as she moaned, letting him settle between her legs. His hands started moving over her body, familiarizing himself with it and how it felt, finding new places to touch that made her giggle and others that made her catch her breath. The way he felt about her made all his doubts disappear. The Phoenix Witch had spoken the truth. They needed to accept that in order to move forward and find all the answers.
Sky pushed him off her and he was just about to protest when she straddled him, making him gasp. She smiled at him before pulling him up to her to take off his shirt, kissing him again, her shaking hands wandering over his chest. It made him tremble and he brought her body even closer to his, turned on by the way she wrapped her legs around him, running his hands over her naked thighs. She grabbed him, smiling into the kiss and the fact that she was enjoying his touches so much made him even more eager, inspiring him to make her feel even better. He started kissing down her neck, nibbling there lightly until he reached her shoulder and by the way she was hugging him tighter and digging her fingers into his skin, he could tell he had found another spot she liked. Poison wanted to spend the rest of his life doing just that.
But a loud knock on the door interrupted the moment, startling them.
'SKY? POISON? Are you guys alright in there?' Kobra yelled and didn't even wait for them to answer, bursting into the room. Sky had just climbed off of his lap in time but it was obvious what was going on.
'Oh. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to interrupt your...soulmating.' Kobra said with a smirk. Poison had told both him and Jet what the witch had told them, not wanting to keep a secret from them especially since they seemed slightly pissed off that she hadn't invited them on their little excursion.
Sky blushed as Poison got up and put on his shirt again, Kobra still standing there, staring at them.
'What's so important then?' he asked him.
'How's your knee?' Kobra ignored Poison's question and looked at her leg.
'Umm...it's fine. Poison took care of it.' she just answered, adjusting her dress.
'Oh I bet he did.' Kobra giggled and Poison walked over to push him out of the room.
'Alright, get outta here you little shit.'
'Wait, wait! I just wanted to tell you that we found something. Jeez, I was just messing.' he said and held up a large piece of paper. It was a map.
*
They were all standing around the counter in the shop, looking down at the map Kobra and Jet had found behind one of the shelves. Sky was trying her best to concentrate but it was hard after what had just happened and thinking about what could have happened, if it hadn't been for Kobra interrupting them.
'It looks like some old geological map that was used for mining. See these lines here? Could be tunnels.' Poison pointed out.
'Yeah but where is this area?'
'Looks like further south, south-east from here. Can't tell for sure.' Jet answered, he was the best when it came to reading and analyzing maps.
'So what are you saying? That we should go looking? To find what?' Kobra asked, looking confused.
'A way across the border.' Sky replied.
'The border's not on the map, we don't know where it is.' Jet explained, sounding frustrated.
Sky knew that. And she felt just as frustrated about it. There was no point looking for it either, since it was too dangerous. They weren't even close to being ready for something like this.
'Doesn't matter right now. But we'll take it when we go back to the diner tomorrow.' Poison said and it surprised Sky.
'You wanna go back already? But what if there's more to find out here?' she followed him as he left the shop, walking back into the bedroom.
'I think the witch would have told us if there was. She showed us what we needed to see, told us what we needed to hear. But she also said that it was up to us now and that we just have to let it run its course. Whatever that means. I don't think there's anything left to do. We need to go back to base, update Ghoul and then focus on our original plan.'
'What original plan?' Sky wanted to know.
'Take on BLI. Destroy them.' was he actually serious? How were they supposed to do that? There was five of them and a whole city, a whole army of agents, a whole corporation of them. And they had so much more power than the Killjoys would ever have. He took her hand, sensing her concern.
'I know what you think and believe me, a few hours ago, I would have been lying to myself if I said that I was confident in taking them on. But things have changed. You know what I'm talking about.' Poison looked down at her necklace and she figured out what he meant.
The Phoenix Witch had talked about how they had come here together. For a reason. And how they would find out when the time was right. That they would know what to do once they remembered. Poison seemed to be convinced it had something to do with the revolution.
'Why else would they be after you, Sky. It makes sense. They know how powerful you are, how powerful we are together and they had to stop you before we could reunite, or whatever the witch called it.' she stared at him in disbelief.
*
Poison wished he could just remember. Make her remember. It would make everything so much easier. But he knew he couldn't force it. So for now, all of this was pure speculation but he felt right about it, deep down, he felt like he was heading in the right direction. It was time they all sat down and analyzed the information they had.
'So she said you came here together? But she didn't tell you from where and how and why and what and nothing?' Kobra said and Poison and Sky nodded in unison. 'Great.'
'I think she meant they came here together as in they came into this world together.' Jet replied and everyone frowned. The way he said it sounded ridiculous.
'You make it sound like we fell from the sky or something.' Poison shook his head but Sky's expression suddenly changed. She sat up straight, looking at him in shock.
'Maybe we did.' she muttered and the guys couldn't help but chuckle. She couldn't be serious. That's not how children were born. Even in this day and age, it still had to be done the old fashioned way.
'Poison, think about it. She called us 'the fallen children'. Maybe we were dropped. Brought here. She said something about how it was written in the stars, that it was meant to be. When we asked her where we had come from, she didn't answer, she just said we were made for each other. And you and I both know that she didn't just mean that figuratively speaking.' she had finished talking and no one dared to make a sound. Kobra and Jet were shifting around on their chairs, clearly uncomfortable and Poison felt the hairs at the back of his neck standing up.
'So you think someone created us? And then someone sent us here?' he finally asked.
'Someone or something.' Sky replied, her voice low.
'Dude, that's some serious Area 51 shit. Is that what those necklaces are for? Are you using them to phone home or something?' Kobra joked and Jet whacked him over the head. Not hard but hard enough.
'Shut up or we might abduct you and do some sexual experiments on you.' Sky just said, making fun of him.
'No thanks. You can continue to do that on each other.' Kobra just snorted and Poison rolled his eyes.
'Okay but in all seriousness, what the fuck are you saying? Children don't just fall out of the sky.' Jet said and Sky was close to losing her patience.
'She knows that, idiot. We all know that it doesn't work like that. Not literally anyway.' Poison answered and she looked at him, nodding, seemingly pleased that he finally understood what she meant.
They had been brought here from somewhere else for a reason. Probably after having been created or born for the same specific reason. Poison remembered the day he had woken up in the desert with nothing on him but the necklace. He remembered when Sky told him the exact same story. The fact that they had no memory of what had happened before that. Who their parents were, where they had lived, what the necklace meant, how they had ended up in the middle of the desert. As though they hadn't even existed before then. Sky read his thoughts.
'Maybe we were placed here. But why?' he asked. He could see it in her eyes that the answer scared her.
'Sky!' Poison came running over to her to help her but she pushed him away, more harshly than intended.
'I'm fine!' she wiped the tears away and saw that she had scraped her knee, blood running down her leg. It made her even angrier.

Notes
Thanks for reading and all!I've been meaning to say, if you have stories published here - I can't check them out just yet. When I'm writing, I literally can't read anything else, it would just distract me from my own story. But I will definitely check it out once I'm done writing this. :)
@carmen_mcr
Aww thank you - I'm glad you enjoyed it so much.
Maybe I will write a sequel. I want to!
