Killjoy is already there when I collapse onto the stone floor of our "home". He never showed me how he gets in here. I wonder if he ever will. Hungry beyond imaginable, I gather the things needed to create a fire. Once our fire is kindling I throw the does meet and watch it singe. We like our meat ashy.

While I'm cooking I let Killjoy play outside. I here rough barks and gun shots from outside. Then I remember Killjoy! I swim out and see a hunter shooting at Killjoy and I scream. Before I think about what I'm doing I punch the hunter in the face. "HOW-DARE-YOU-HIT-MY-DOG!!!!!!" I holler between punches. When Killjoy makes an escape, I freeze then run away crying. It's past midnight. I can't fall asleep. I'm still thinking about the danger I put Killjoy in.
"What-what if something bad happens?" I ask Killjoy absent mindedly. The cave was everything I've ever worked for. It hurts me to even think of giving it up. But now I have Killjoy, and that means i may have to make some BIG sacrifices. For his own good. I put him in danger twice today. I feel cold inside, like I'm a monster. "We can't stay here." I say in a dead monotone. "We have to find a new home."
