What Happens in Art Class...

Chapter 10 (F)

I was so nervous the next morning. I got up super early, took a shower, got dressed, did my hair, drank some coffee, decided my outfit was shit, changed my clothes seven and a half times, applied deodorant, put on some cologne that I had been saving, rocked back and forth in a fetal position on my bed, and almost burst into nervous tears. All in a matter of two hours. I swear my mom thought I was insane by the time I finally heard a honk outside the house. He was there, and I was freaking out on the inside.

Why was I freaking out? This was a guy who I’d been dating over a month. Spending a day with him should not have seemed scary. Except that I hadn’t been on an actual date with a guy before. Usually my homosexual tendencies stayed within the bounds of one-night stands and such. Sneaking a quickie in the football locker room was more likely than catching a romantic comedy at the movie theatre.

Still…It was Gerard. Everything was going to be fine. I reassured myself as I took a deep breath and walked outside where Gerard was waiting in his car. I blushed as I got in the passenger seat because, well, let’s just say he looked really good. He had his hair pushed back off his face in a messy style and he was dressed in complete casual attire: a pair of jeans with a loose t-shirt. It was such a rare look for him.

“Hey,” he smiled, “I’d kiss you but I think your mom’s watching through the window.”

“Yeah, I might have given her good reason to do that,” I laughed lightly.

“Oh? And how’s that?” he asked as he began to drive.

“Just, you know, being a nervous wreck all morning. I don’t think you’re supposed to act like that when all that you’re doing is hanging out with your teacher.”

“I bet you being a nervous wreck is adorable though.”

“I doubt it. I probably looked like a deranged maniac.”

He reached across the seat and grabbed my hand, “An adorable deranged maniac.”

I blushed and kept my mouth shut for a while after that. We drove in a comfortable silence before I looked out the window and got really confused, “Where are we going exactly?”

“I’m not entirely sure. I figured we’d drive until something caught one of our eyes.”

“That actually sounds like a good idea.”

“Yeah, just…God, this is going to sound horrible…Can we keep it cheap? I’m on a first year teaching salary and now I have two people to feed.”

Wait…What? “Two people?”

“Oh…Right. Mikey has officially moved in. Apparently he can’t get along with Mom and Dad anymore.”

I actually found that pretty understandable. If what Mikey said was true, his parents treated him like trash. I wouldn’t stick around long either.

“Well…why don’t we just walk around somewhere then? I really don’t mind as long as we’re spending time together…” I blushed and looked away, embarrassed that I had said something so cheesy.

Gerard surprised me by moving his arm across my shoulder and pulling me over to kiss my head, “Me either.”

“Well….Is that a mall?” I said, pointing out the window at the unfamiliar town, “I kinda like window shopping.”

He laughed as he pulled into the giant parking lot, “All right. Malls have food courts, so we can pick up some lunch at some point too.”

When we got in the door I immediately went on the hunt for my favorite store: Hot Topic. Okay, so it had gone downhill and gotten some really lame stuff recently, but it also still sold some kick ass band merch which was all I wanted to look at. Gerard followed without a complaint and even got really into looking at some Smashing Pumpkins tees. I was a little surprised they were there, but I wasn’t complaining because it struck up quite the conversation about our favorite bands. I love discussing music.

At one point Gerard laughed while holding up a shirt that horrified me: My Little Pony. “I so need this!”

“For what?”

“To give to Mikey. It’s so him.”

I shook my head, “How could you even possibly be okay with your brother liking that?”

He shrugged, “He’s always loved unicorns. It’s to be expected. It’s not like I can actually get it anyway.”

I absolutely could not imagine a younger Mikey sitting around with unicorn dolls. It just did not add up. So instead of thinking of an intelligent reply, I changed the subject, “Uh, yeah. How about we go get that food now?”

“Yeah, sounds good.” He put the shirt back and slung his arm around me as we walked away. It made me blush as I realized we could be as couple-y as we wanted here without getting in trouble. I found myself leaning into him and reaching my hand up to intertwine our fingers. Of course, people still gave us weird looks because of our genders, but I had a very high tolerance for judgment, and apparently Gerard did, too.

We didn’t exactly make it to the food, because I saw something out of the corner of my eye that made me squeal, “Gerard! A photo booth! Let’s take pictures, pleeeease?”

I probably sounded like a little kid, but he smiled, “Why not?”

We entered the small, curtained space and inserted the two dollars it cost. Then I added a small heart to the corner of the pictures just to be cheesy. The picture reel went something like this: Gerard and I sat side by side. Gerard with me on his lap. Gerard kissing my cheek. Me kissing Gerard’s cheek. Gerard kissing me for real while I look shocked. Gerard and I kissing with both our eyes closed. Gerard and I staring into each other’s eyes and blushing. Another kiss. And then our money was spent, but we each got a picture strip. I put mine in my wallet. I thought it was really precious.

The rest of the day consisted of actually getting food, walking around, getting ice cream, and stopping at an art supply store so Gerard could pick up some special pens or something. Then we had to leave because Gee was worried that if we stayed out too late Mom would get suspicious. I didn’t blame him for that one.

He parked a bit down the street so that he could kiss me goodbye. Then he drove up to my door and I went inside. Luckily, Mom didn’t ask what we did and Dad wasn’t there (big surprise). I went up to my room and lay on my bed studying our pictures. It had been such a simple, short date. But I think that’s what I liked about it. There was no pressure about anything. It was just the two of us hanging out and enjoying each other’s company.

Notes

Hello my loveys! I'm sooooo sorry it's been so long! I mean, a girl gets her computer fixed just to be thrust into a boring world of no internet forever. My gracious friend is now allowing me to use hers.

I do have some things to report . On my Wattpad account (www.wattpad.com/user/MrsLester) I am going to be posting a couple non MCR related stories. If you're a fan of any of these youtubers: danisnotonfire, AmazingPhil, charlieissocoollike, ninebrassmonkeys, Crabstickz, or kickthepj, then pleeeeaaaase go chech them out. They are titled Charlie is So...Pregnant Like?! and Mama Crabstickz.

Also, I am staring a frerard manga. So scary to delve into this world, but yes. It will be a graphic novel recreation of one of my all time fave fics: The Hoodie. I found this on ficwad.com and I have full permission from the author. I will (eventually) be posting it on my deviant account (www.hyper-maniac33.deviantart.com) check that out too if ye be willing.
