The Art of Memories

White's Your Worst Enemy

Gerard couldn't remember the last time he had felt his bad. Maybe it was when he caught the flu in fourth grade and then got attacked by a dog a few days into it. Maybe. Of maybe it was the time he told Frank that he hated him and then Frank cleared off for five weeks, no call or anything. Gerard thought he had died. They were both pretty awful times. Just like now.

Gerard was a in a bed, in a hospital he assumed. The sheets were white, his robe was white, the walls were white, the curtain around his area was white. It was enough white to drive someone insane. And in came a nurse. Wearing white. Followed by a rather grumpy looking Frank. Grumpy or angry. Two very adorable expressions on Frank.
"I'm glad you're awake, we'll have a talk after your visitor has left," the nurse smiled a white toothy smile, giving Gerard a shiver.

Once she had left, Frank sat on the chair beside Gerard's bed. And said nothing. Gerard attempted to sit up, causing pain to spiral up his back and stomach. He winced, his eyes filling with water, blurring his vision into an even whiter blob. He gave up and just used his pillows as a prop so he could see Frank better.
"Hey Fra-"
"Gerard, just read this," Frank's voice was tired and irritated. As Gerard took the piece of paper Frank was holding out to him, he tried to squeeze Frank's hand, but Frank moved it away quickly, chewing his nails to give it some use.

The white piece of paper Gerard was holding in front of him hurt his eyes, but they did finally focus to the scrawled, black ink across the page. It read:
Gerard,
To start off with, I am appalled with your behaviour. That was really disgusting. Especially with a new work colleague of yours. I understand it was not all you, seeing as you are the one in hospital, but you encouraged this violent behaviour. I have heard an account of what happened between you two from Jake and he has written a letter of apology to me. I hope you do too.
Meanwhile, you should stay at home and wait for your bruises and rib to heal.
I hope to hear from you soon,
Gary.

Gerard let go of the paper, watching it slide off the sheets, onto the floor. Which was so shiny, he could see Frank's reflection in it. Why was Frank in such a bad mood?
"Frank, I'm sorry, but you should have been there, he was out of order!" Gerard tried to reason with Frank, not knowing what he already knew.
"He's not like a was Gerard, he even explained that to you. Why did you have to do that, he's changed,"
"FRANK?!" Gerard wanted to cry, "Have you completely forgotten what he did to us. To you. Him suddenly reappearing and saying he's changes doesn't edit the past. It doesn't make everything alright,"
"He has changed. He with someone now and they live together. And we're going to dinner there next week,".

*********

Gerard was livid. Whenever Frank was ill, Gerard looked after him, fed him, entertained him. He even had a nurse uniform he wore. Never again.

It wasn't thank Frank was uncaring, he was more open to things than Gerard. He could put the past behind him and forgive people much quicker than Gerard could. Which was why they saw this situation so differently.

Back at home, Gerard was lying in bed, staring at his sketchbook. And the sketch he had started for Frank the day before. The colors weren't right and the shapes were out of proportion with each other. There was a small dot of blood in the corner of the page. The color was a raging, bright red. It was horrible to look at. He ripped out the page in his scrapbook and folded it up. On the back he wrote 'Frankie' before putting it under the mattress on Frank's side of the bed. He'd find it one day. Just not now. Gerard leaned over Frank's side of the bed, lingering for a bit, inhaling Frank's precious scent. Gerard might have just ruined everything.

He rolled back onto his pillow, his spine arching as pain shot through him. He couldn't help but to scream. He had one broken rib and a series of lumpy, multi-colored bruises. He had been given cream to put on them to reduce the swelling. Fuck knows where that cream was now. Gerard whimpered as he let his whole body go limp. The pain was unbearable. And he couldn't do anything about it.

A cool feeling in the centre of Gerard's back startled him as he drifted out of his uncomfortable sleep. He could feel someone rubbing his back. Someone doing circular motion with this cool substance it felt so good. Even on the sore patches of his back. It made him wince, but the pained was numbed. He sighed, letting this feeling over come him. Just as Gerard was getting sleepy, the hands left his back. He heard a click and saw someone throw something in the vague direction of the chair in the corner. Whatever it was, landed with a soft thud. A dull sound, ringing in Gerard's ears. His head was pounding, his hair sticking to his sweaty head. He felt like a living hell.

A familiar smell filled his nostrils, it was a beautiful smell that Gerard wanted more of. The smell got stronger and he heard a soft whisper in his ear.
"Night G baby,".
That angelic voice. That precious smell. Suddenly gone again.
