Rock and Roll Ruined My Life – Chapter 43 – Next Stop, Home

Julie’s P.O.V

I woke up and felt Jack’s arms around me. I smiled in relief; he forgave me. I don’t think I had ever been so happy in my entire life to have him back. Suddenly, I realized that the bus was shaking. I sat up quickly and groaned in pain. My stomach, throat, and head were killing me. Jack woke up and was startled by the shaking just as I was. Suddenly, the bus tilted, and Jack held onto me for dear life. It was then I realized we were on the road! The first stop was done and we were off to the next state. I burst out in laughter and Jack joined in.

“They’re awake!” I heard someone laugh. I turned my head to see Kitty looking up from the bottom bunk across from us. I offered her a smile and shakily took in another breath. My throat was killing me.

“You alright?” Jack asked, concern in his voice.
“I’ve been worse.”
“Do you need medicine?”
“I don’t know,” I shrugged.

“I’ll tell Lindsey you’re awake,” Kitty stood up slowly and walked to the front of the bus. She made it seem so easy to walk against the inertia that I decided that I wanted to get up too.

“Jack, I wanna get up.”
“Ugh, no I’m comfy,” he wrapped his arms back around my waist and snuggled into me. I sighed and lied back down. I was not going to fight him off; I had just fought to get him back. I closed my eyes again and fixed myself so that my back was against his chest.

“Kit, they aren’t up, they’re still sleeping,” I heard Lindsey laugh. I felt a small smile break out onto my face; things were finally going back to normal.

*

“Julie,” I heard someone whisper. I ignored them and they tapped my shoulder annoyingly.
“Nooo,” I complained, burying my head in the covers.
“If you don’t get up, I’ll drag you out,” I heard the Rev warn. I quickly sat up and saw Jack standing next to my bunk and a bunch of other people behind him.

“Oh, this is embarrassing,” I tried to fix my hair, which was definitely sticking up in every direction possible. Suddenly, I saw that Billie, Juliana and Kat were in the small crowd!

“What are you guys doing here?”
“We’re in New Jersey,” Jack chuckled.
“Oh my God. No way!” I exclaimed. However, I got too excited and had to let out a loud, mucusy cough. I saw Kat, Jack, and Hayley cringe.

“Are you okay?” Lindsey pushed everyone aside and put a hand on my forehead.
“I’m just tired,” I lied.
“You’re burning,” she frowned.
“I was bundled up all day… I just need some fresh air,” I began to panic. What if I had to go to the doctor?
“Its really nice outside, fresh air will help,” Kat tried her hand at persuasion.

Lindsey hesitated before nodding.

“Yes!” I breathed a sigh of relief. I hated going to the doctor. I was terrified of needles and medicine and the scary white walls of the waiting room and all that stuff. My experience at the hospital in June did not help with my fear either.

“You’ll never guess where we are,” Kat gushed.
“Um, New Jersey; you guys told me already.”
“No, wrong! You’re home!” Kat threw open the bus door and sure enough, there was the house I has resided in for the past few months.

I felt a grin spread across my face and Jack laced his hands in mine.

“Damn. Even your hand is hot,” he frowned.
“I know, but I don’t wanna go to the doctor,” I kept the conversation between us two as we followed Kat to my house.

Lindsey cut ahead of all of us and opened the door. The familiar smell of home reached my nose and I inhaled the scent longingly. I managed to hold back another cough until we got upstairs. I opened my door and threw myself onto my bed. It felt so good to be in a full size bed!

“So much for getting fresh air,” Kat laughed when she saw me.
“No, I really can’t even move right now. My stomach and throat are killing me.”
“Aw. Everyone wanted to see you, but I guess if you’re not feeling good it’s probably for the better,” Kat pouted.
“No! I want to see everyone! Maybe they could come over here. Lauren, Tom, Lizzy, Mike – even Jimmy!”
“Wow. You must really miss everyone,” Kat laughed.
“I do,” I coughed.

“I don’t know if it’s a good idea for you to see everyone,” Jack said as he walked in.
“Why not?” I furrowed my brow.
“You are really hot.” Kat gave him a did-you-really-just-say-that-wait-until-I-leave-please look and I joined her in grilling him.
“No, no! Not like that,” he suddenly realized his words. I let a small smile form on my lips, which cracked as I did so.

“Ouch,” I muttered. I brought a hand up to feel my bottom lip and saw blood on my fingertip.
“Oh! Here,” Kat quickly tossed me a box of tissues and I took one and applied pressure.

“You’re probably dehydrated,” she diagnosed me.
“I feel like shit.”
“No offense, you look like it too.”
“None taken… but what if they leave me home because of this? What if I can’t go to the next show? I’ll be so upset,” I frowned.
“Don’t be. It’s not your fault,” Jack spat. I felt a new wave of sadness come over me; we still hadn’t resolved things with Alex.

“Please don’t cry,” Kat rushed over to me and shot Jack a look. He shook his head angrily and walked out of my room. I felt tears form in my eyes.
“You get some rest, I’ll tell Lindsey to get you some medicine and cold compresses.”
“Okay,” I sniffed. Kat patted my shoulder and rushed out of my room.

I pulled the covers back and crawled underneath them; I was freezing and my throat felt like it was on fire. After a few minutes I drifted away into a fitful sleep.

*

“-She can’t go to the next show. She has to see a doctor.”

I woke up to the sound of voices and a wave of heat sweeping over me. I froze in my spot. Where was I?

“Yeah, I guess so…” Gerard’s voice trailed off.
“I’ll feel better once we know what’s wrong… You do know what happened, don’t you?” Lindsey asked.
“Yeah.”
“I can’t believe it.”
“Well, by now you should realize that drama follows her around everywhere-”
“-Gerard! It’s like you don’t even have feelings! Her and Jack are a better couple than we are right now, and they just had the biggest fight! Really, what’s gotten into you? You’re starting to drink again, you don’t ask about Bandit anymore, and you’re avoiding topics you never had a problem joking about before Julie came along. I-”
“- Please, Linds.” I could picture Gerard sighing and bringing a hand up to his forehead.
“No. No more ‘please Linds’. I’ve heard enough of those. Now either you start explaining yourself or leave so that I can take care of our d-daughter!” I heard Lindsey’s voice crack and I felt my heart twinge. It was time to make my presence known.

“Please don’t fight over me,” my voice came out horse and no louder than a whisper. I looked down and saw that I had been changed into short shorts and a tank-top, and there were cold rags all over me. I felt my face blush as I saw Gerard’s face come into focus. He had never seen me in anything other than skinny jeans and band tees. However, it shouldn’t matter. He was my dad now. No more being embarrassed.

“Honey, are you alright?” Lindsey got up from my desk and rushed over to me.
“No. Everyone is miserable because of me and I don’t think I could stand watching everyone fight and break up and not talk to each other anymore. Gerard’s right, I’m a fuckup and all I do is cause problems for everyone.” I stood up and pulled all of the rags off of my body.

“Jules, I didn’t mean it like that,” Gerard caught me by the arm and spun me around to face him. I looked into his eyes; I could always tell what a person was feeling when I did this. It was just something I knew how to do. Gerard was definitely tired, stressed, and feeling worn out.

“But you’re right,” I said.
“Maybe I am, but I know that you’re the type of person that can handle it. I mean you’ve gotten this far, haven’t you?” I nodded.
“I would never try to say anything to make you feel bad about yourself. That didn’t come out right and I apologize. I’m just really tired of trying to keep up this whole act. I’ve got my own problems too you know,” his glance flickered to Lindsey then back to me.
“I understand,” I nodded.
“Now, please let us take you to the doctor so that you can get better. We have a show tomorrow and I would like you to at least be able to come back on the bus with us. It’s so boring without you,” he smiled.
“Okay,” I felt a weak smile form on my cracked lips. I sighed. I hated the doctor’s so much.

“We promise he’s a good doctor. We go to him all the time,” Lindsey chimed in.
“Okay. Is he open now? Because I don’t know if I could stand waiting until tomorrow. I feel like crap.”
“Yeah we can go now,” Gerard chuckled.
“You may want to put on a few more items of clothing,” Lindsey laughed.
“Oh no, I’m on fire,” I shook my head and fanned my face with my hands.
“At least some pants.”
“Nooo. Plus, all of my clothes are on the bus.”
“You little liar,” Lindsey laughed and walked over to my closet. Empty hangers stared her in the face.
“Told you.”
“We’re going to buy you more clothes, soon.”
“Okay,” I laughed before pulling on my boots. Gerard lead the way out of my room, he looked a little better. Lindsey followed behind and motioned for me to come along. Just as I was about to shut my door I saw someone’s hoodie on the floor of my closet. I pulled it up and saw a few flattened beer boxes. I smiled, it was from the first tour party we had. I quickly threw it on and inhaled the scent; I’m pretty sure it was one of Jack’s hoodies. I quickly rushed downstairs and heard everyone stop talking.

“Whoa,” Jack’s mouth fell open. I looked down and blushed; the hoodie went past my shorts and I was only wearing boots.

“You are not going to the doctor’s like that,” Gerard and Lindsey shook their heads.
“It’s literally the only thing I have to wear.”
“That’s alright- I-I mean, no. No you can’t walk around like that,” Jack stammered, a blush creeping up his neck. I laughed as Gerard gave him a look.

“How about we stop at the bus first then?” Lindsey suggested.
“Okay,” I nodded.

As Gerard and Lindsey took the lead I saw Jack staring at my legs.

“My face is up here,” I snapped my fingers, a big smile on my face.
“Mhm,” he shook his head and walked forward to wrap an arm around my waist.
“Jack Barakat if you try to cop a feel while we are walking,” I warned jokingly.
“Me? No. Never,” he laughed sarcastically.
“I’m serious. I’m sick. At least wait until I get better.”
“Mmmm, fine,” he whined.
“I’m sorry.”
“It’s alright. But you know, I can’t really get sick from you.”
“Why? How?” I furrowed my brow as we walked out to the car.
“Well, Alex and I hang- used to hang out a lot and we probably have the same germs and shit.”
“True. But still. I feel like crap.”
“Fine,” he sighed.
“It was a good try though,” I laughed. I opened the car door and saw a bunch of travel bags littering the floor. I hunched over and began climbing. I could feel Jack’s eyes on my ass the entire time.

When he sat down next to me I could tell he was fighting every instinct inside of him. I looked up at him and shook my head with a “nope-you-ain’t-gettin-this-anytime-soon” look. He sighed in anguish and I laughed again. Gerard started the car and adjusted his mirror so that he could clearly see Jack and me. This only made me laugh more because I knew Gerard was trying to stop Jack from attacking me.

As we drove I settled for taking Jack’s hand in mine. This however, was no easy task because no matter how I tried to fidget, our hands always ended up brushing my leg. I finally gave in and just rested our entwined fingers next to my knee. That was as far as I’d ever go at this point. Jack was a hormonal mess by the time we got to the lot of the arena.

Gerard parked the car and tossed me my key to the bus. I caught it and got out, standing up slowly just to get Jack crazy. Yeah, I was being a tease, but what’s life without a little fun?

“Julie, you’re killing me,” Jack muttered.
“I know,” I winked before making my way over to the bus. I heard someone wolf whistle from the distance. I turned and saw Tyson and Nick stop short. I saw Jack tense up and I laughed.

“Hey, guys. Just heading off to the doctors,” I said and showcased my mucusy cough.
“Damn,” Tyson shook his head.
“Feel better; sorry Jack,” Nick added before rushing off with Tyson in tow.

“Go change, please,” Gerard herded all of us onto the bus. I ignored the other guys’ comments about my outfit as I rushed to the back. Jack followed and helped me pull out my suitcase from the closet; my stomach was still hurting.

“Julie,” Jack whined.
“What happened?” I turned around and saw him staring at me with pleading eyes.
“No, Jack. I’m sorry. I want to make out too, but I just can’t right now,” I pouted.
“Please, please, please.” I shook my head no and turned away before he could close the space between us.

I pulled out a whole new outfit, making sure to hide the bra and panties from his vision, and rushed into the bathroom. I came out in skinny jeans, a short-sleeve black t-shirt, and Jack’s hoodie five minutes later.

“Nooo,” Jack pouted.
“Yes,” I laughed before walking out to the front.

“Wow, that’s a big difference,” Frank commented.
“Shut up!” I blushed.
“I can’t wait until summer,” I heard Jack mutter. I stifled my laughter and followed Gerard and Lindsey back out to the car.

“Are you coming too?” I asked Jack.
“Do you want me to?”
“I don’t mind,” I turned to look at Gerard and Lindsey for an official answer.
“Sure, if you want,” Gerard shrugged.
“Okay, let’s go,” Jack smiled. I sniffed and climbed back into my original seat. I held Jack’s hand the same way I had before as we drove the long drive to the doctor’s office.

*

Turns out I was showing signs of mono, but it turned out to be a stomach virus. To say that Jack and I were relieved that we didn’t make out was an understatement. We stopped at CVS to get my meds then went back to the bus. I gave Jack a hug goodnight and decided to get some more sleep; I was exhausted. I had no idea where Jack would sleep that night or who else was sleeping over, but all I knew was I wanted to get better – and soon.

I pulled out my phone and saw I had a million text messages. I sighed and read them one by one:

- Hey, just wanted to make sure you’re alright. I got grounded for two weeks btw, so I won’t be able to hang out this weekend. Don’t worry, my parents are still cool with the whole band thing – Deanna
- hey, julie ☺ hows it going with jack? – Hayley<3
- Hey! Heard you’re coming to Jersey, can’t wait to see you – Kat
- Where are you? – Gerard

I looked at the times the messages were received and realized they were from this morning. I locked my phone, then unlocked it, and then locked it again. I was hesitant to do what I knew I had to do. I decided it was time to be a big girl and suck it up. I unlocked my phone and scrolled down to the name I needed. I pulled up a blank text:

- We need to talk.

And sent it to Alex.

Yes, I had messed up big time, but Jack had forgiven me. And even though I’m embarrassed about what happened, Alex was still one of my closest friends and I did not want to ruin Jack and Alex’s friendship either. The text said it all; we needed to talk. I just prayed that talking wouldn’t lead to more fighting. I locked my phone quickly and shut it, not wanting to see if he replied or not.

*

I woke up at 11:00 to an empty bus. I took my time getting dressed; I bummed it out in sweatpants and a tank top. I still felt a little warm, but at least it felt like the medicine was working. I decided that I didn’t want to eat anything just yet. I pulled out my phone and saw I had a whole new wave of text messages. Thankfully, Mikey had texted me directions and I was able to find my way to the arena.

I pulled out my sunglasses and backstage pass from my hoodie and threw them on as I got closer to the arena. I saw there was already a line to get in. A few people stopped to turn and look at me, but no one bothered to take a picture or anything. Hopefully things would stay that way. As I walked through the front doors I saw merch and crew people everywhere. I spotted Andy and Josh and walked over to them.

“Hey, look who’s here,” Josh smiled.
“Hey guys.”
“How you doin’?” Andy asked, chewing on his gum.
“Okay. I’m happy the medicine is working.”
“Oh yeah I forgot you were sick! Stay away,” Josh laughed and held up his fingers in an X.
“Oh stop. You can’t get it from just being in the same room as me,” I smiled.
“Yeah, we know. Anyways, what’s up?” Andy asked, seeming genuinely interested and concerned.
“Well, I was wondering what bands are here, what’s going on, you know… everything?”

“Right now the merch guys are setting up inside-”
“-The bands are doing their thing on stage,” Josh added.
“-And we’re supervising.”
“Alright. Sounds cool. What time does the show start tonight?”
“Umm 7?”
“8?”
“Ask Brad, he’ll know.”
“Okay, will do! Thank you guys so much,” I smiled.
“No problem.”
“…Do you have anymore gum?” I asked before I left, a blush creeping across my face.
“I knew you were gunna ask that,” Andy grinned as he pulled out a pack of WinterFresh.
“Thanks so much!” I waved and continued on inside the arena.

I pulled off my shades and took a look around. I saw Rian and Jack hanging out with their merch guy, Vinny. I walked up and sat on the counter nonchalantly.

“Oh! Hey,” Rian smiled. Jack and Vinny turned to face me.
“Hey,” Jack walked over and gave me a hug and kiss on the cheek.
“Hi, Juliet,” Vinny waved.
“What’s up?” I asked, folding my sunglasses and hanging them on my tank top.
“Nothing much,” Vinny shrugged. I saw Jack staring at my sunglasses, which, unbeknownst to me, had pulled my tank top down significantly. I pulled them off and put them on top of my head, my ears turning red.
“Geez, Jack. As if this morning wasn’t bad enough,” Rian chuckled.
“What happened this morning?” I asked. I saw a blush creep up Jack’s neck and his eyes widen in embarrassment.
“Well,” Vinny began, “Jack was-”

He never got a chance to finish. Jack tackled him to the floor. Everyone around us burst out laughing and I didn’t bother asking again. To be honest, I didn’t want to know. I stood up and smoothed out my sweatpants.

“On that note, I’m going to leave. It was nice talking to you guys,” I grinned and left Jack to be harassed by his friends.

As I ‘wandered’ around, I knew who I was looking for. But I wanted to take my own sweet time looking. I could probably easily find them if I asked, but I decided it was best to just make it look like a coincidence.

I flashed my pass to security, which already knew me, and proceeded on backstage. I saw Brad talking to a few of his crewmembers and waited for the right moment to butt into the conversation.

“Excuse me.”
“-Juliet! Hey, how’re you feeling?” Brad greeted me with a sympathetic smile. Something in his voice told me he knew everything that happened, which was probably a must in his situation because he was the one managing all of these bands. If someone wanted to kill someone else, it was his job to stop that from happening. My case was a perfect example. I saw the crewmembers tapping their feet impatiently and decided to wrap up the convo.
“I’m doing okay. I just had a few questions, but I’ll save them for later. Nothing big,” I patted his arm and continued past him. It was then that I bumped into Brian.

“Hey, Jules,” Brian offered me a friendly smile.
“Hey.”
“Are you looking for Gerard or something? I think he’s in the dressing room,” Brian pointed in the direction of the corridor. Yes! Why didn’t I think of that?!
“Oh! Thanks so much,” I grinned, feeling great about not having to give away my motives.
“No problem. And if you’re looking for Jack he’s out in the front somewhere,” he added quickly. I nodded and turned around, feeling suspicious. Brian usually never talked to me, but all of a sudden he was willingly giving away information about other people’s whereabouts? I took this into consideration as I walked. It didn’t take long to find the right label.

I knocked three times and stepped back. A few minutes later there was Zack, standing in the doorway.

“Hey, Zack,” I smiled.
“Hey. You looking for Jack?” he asked, still standing in the doorway. This was odd. He usually let me in right away.
“No, I actually wanted to talk to you… If that’s okay,” I added, biting my lip nervously. I saw his face soften the tiniest bit.
“Yeah, it’s fine. C’mon in,” he stepped back and I walked in to find the dressing room empty.
“In here all by yourself?” I asked, curiously.
“Yeah, I like to just chill by myself sometimes.”
“Oh, me too… Anyways, I need to talk to you about Alex.”

“Alright,” he hesitated, “what’s up?”
“I’m sorry for dumping all of this on you, really I am. But I know Alex and I fucked up, and I know things are going to be awkward, but we all need to make up! I don’t know how much longer I can go with having to deal with all of this drama! Jack and I are fine, but without Alex Jack is nothing. He’s missing his other half.” I saw Zack’s face scrunch up the tiniest bit.
“By other half, I mean like best friend. Like you and Kat are best friends, and Jack and I are best friends. Alex and Jack are friends too, I don’t want them not talking because of me.”
“So, you’re not mad at Alex?” Zack asked, a little on the loud side.
“No, not really. If I’m mad at anyone it’s myself,” I sighed. It was then I noticed there were two feet visible from underneath the door of the bathroom.

“Well, that’s understandable,” Zack nodded, catching my gaze and speaking up.
“Please tell me who’s in the bathroom,” I asked. Zack didn’t reply, but I heard the handle turn. Alex stepped out and shut the door behind him. I felt a pang of guilt and hurt hit me. I had to look away for a second to regain my composure.

“Hi, Alex.”
“Hey,” he scratched the back of his neck. He didn’t look particularly upset. I felt a flare of anger rise up in my mind. He should be upset!
“Trying to have everyone cover for you?” I asked, my calm tone of voice not matching the venom coursing through my brain.
“Yeah,” he chuckled nervously. I waited for him to say the few words I had been waiting to hear. The silence stretched on for what seemed like hours.
“Did you talk to Jack?” I asked, already knowing the answer.
“No. Did you?”
“Yes. Things are fine between us,” I was still waiting to hear the magic words I had been hoping to hear.

“Look Julie, I know we shouldn’tve kissed, but admit it; if it didn’t happen now, it would have been worse if it had happened later.” I felt my jaw go slack.
“Did you just say that you had planned on kissing me?” I tried to keep my thoughts straight.
“Well, no. Not exactly. That was kind of an accident. But I’m not saying that I never thought about it,” a blush crept up his neck.
“Please clarify what you are saying. If this is about you and Lisa having a fight or something, please don’t bring me and Jack into it. I am perfectly happy with our relationship, thank you very much.”
“No! No. It’s not like that… You don’t really know me, Julie… Lisa and I have been on and off for years. It’s hard being away from someone you like and not think about them all the time… Being drunk doesn’t exactly help the brain with that.” I waited for him to continue.
“When we were dancing, I knew it was you. But when we started fooling around I started thinking about Lisa and… I… I got horny,” he finished awkwardly. I felt my face flush in embarrassment. I quickly glanced at Zack who didn’t seem too bothered by all of this.

“Oh, I see,” I glanced down at my hands.
“I’m sorry.”

Finally, the golden words were spoken.

“That’s all I wanted to hear, you know,” I looked up and met Alex’s eyes.
“Really?”
“Yeah… I know you’re not perfect; pshht God knows I’m not. And yeah we made a big mistake. But I want- no- I need you as a friend, and Jack needs you too. We were both drunk for crying out loud! And next time, we know to stay away from each other or to find you another girl to make out with,” I added with a small smile. I saw a grin break out onto Alex’s face. I saw Zack smiling too.

“Can we just be friends again?” I asked.
“Yeah, I can do that,” Alex nodded.
“Thanks,” I stood up and gave him a hug.
“I’m sorry,” Alex apologized once more.
“Just as long as it doesn’t happen again. I don’t know if I could handle going through that twice,” I shook my head as thoughts from that night replayed in my mind.
“Me either. I’ve felt like shit ever since.”
“You gave ma a stomach virus, did you know that?” Alex backed away and put a hand over his mouth.
“Mhm! They thought it was mono, but it wasn’t thank God.”
“Holy shit. I didn’t mean for that to happen either. I’m so sorry.”
“It’s alright,” I laughed; Zack and Alex joined in.

“Well, now we just have to get you and Jack to make up,” I sighed. Alex and Zack exchanged looks.
“It’s not going to go well, but I’ll try.”
“That’s all you can do,” I shrugged.
“…So… I guess we’ll follow you,” Zack held the door open for me. I thanked him and took the lead. I stopped when we were about to go out to the front.

“Maybe it’s best if we don’t all show up and once. I’ll go out first, then you guys wait a few minutes and come out after me.” They nodded and I walked back out to see Hayley, Jeremy, and Frank talking to a few of the crewmembers. I walked over and joined the conversation.

Jack, Vinny, and Rian eventually walked over and joined too. Just as I was about to text one of them, I heard the door open again and saw Hayley and Jeremy fall silent. Everyone turned to see Alex and Zack standing there awkwardly.

“Um, hey,” Zack started.
“What’s up?” Rian asked.
“Can we talk?” Alex asked. I walked over to Jack and took his hand. I looked at him expectantly and he nodded. The crewmembers, Frank, Hayley, and Jeremy buzzed off and left the 6 of us to chat. Thankfully, Hayley and Jeremy didn’t go too far – just in case.

“What do you want?” Jack asked, still holding onto my hand.
“I wanted to apologize.” I felt Jack’s grip loosen.
“Why should I even consider accepting it?”
“Because I fucked up, and I’m fucking sorry.” Jack shook his head and began to walk away.
“Jack, it was both of our faults,” I spoke up. He stopped and turned to face me.
“You know my side of the story, hear his?” I pleaded. He hesitated before nodding. Alex silently thanked me and took a deep breath.

“After those shots, I was just trying to have a good time. I started dancing with Julie, and, well, she’s obviously not ugly,” I felt a smile break out on my face, “so I kind of got turned on… She didn’t come onto me, I swear,” he held up a hand as he clarified, “And then I started thinking of Lisa, and the rest is history… I’m really sorry though. I know all the shit you’ve both been through, and I was way out of line.”
“Jack, please,” I turned and gave him my best puppy dog eyes. I saw him glance at me quickly then back to Alex, who was quietly waiting for Jack’s response.

“Please,” I felt tears start to gather in the corners of my eyes. If Jack and Alex didn’t talk again because of me, I didn’t know what I would do with myself. After what seemed like an eternity, Jack nodded.

“Okay.”
“You forgive us?” I asked.
“Yeah,” me mumbled.
“Thanks, man. I’m sorry,” Alex apologized again. An awkward silence settled over us.

“Oh, just hug already!” I pushed Jack toward Alex and wrapped my arms around them both. “If you two don’t hug back,” I warned jokingly. Both of them hastily brought their arms up to return the gesture.
“That’s better!” I smiled.

We all talked for a few more minutes and when Brad walked by he noticed all of us acting civilized with each other.

“Hey, how’s everything going guys?” He looked back and forth between Alex, Jack, and I.
“It’s better,” I smiled.
“Okay, good. Had me scared there for a second,” he chuckled.
“Yeah, everything’s been cleared up.”
“That’s good to hear. You guys should go and get some lunch or something,” he suggested, glancing at his digital watch.
“Yeah I’m starving! I didn’t have breakfast.”
“Shame on you, Julie,” Vinny shook his head.
“I know… Alright we’ll get some food,” I nodded to Brad.
“Okay, see you guys later!” He waved and walked off, no doubt in search of Andy or Josh.

We decided to take a trip to find the nearest McDonalds. As we set out, Alex and Jack slowly got back into their regular crazy behavior. I was happy that all of the drama was over with. Suddenly, I noticed Alex looking at me, a huge douche bag grin on his face.

"What?" I asked.
"You know you liked it," he grinned jokingly.
"Excuse me?" I felt my face blush.
"Yeah, I saw your face. You didn't know what to do with yourself.” He stopped short in the middle of the parking lot and started grinding the air. Once he had everyone’s attention he rolled his eyes back into a face of ecstasy. I saw everyone turn to stare at me in shock and I buried my face in Jack's chest. I felt him wrap his arms around me, his frame shaking with laughter. I didn’t know I had looked like that; I was drunk! No one had ever done that to me, what did he expect?

I heard everyone gasping for air and slapping their knees. I felt the blush reach my ears and continue down my neck. I was pretty sure I was purple.

"What is going on here?" I heard Hayley ask, appearing out of nowhere.
"Nothing," Jack laughed before anyone else could.
"We're just talking about Julie," Alex gasped.
"You would be laughing too if you just saw what went down! I don’t even know her and this is insane,” Vinny snorted. I felt my face flush again; he had known me as being a smart, serious girl, and now him and the rest of All Time Low knew how to get under my skin.

"Jack, you gotta do that next time. Please just do it, it's great!"

I could picture Alex and the guys leaning on each other for support as they laughed at the visual they all had.

"You guys shouldn't be laughing," I mumbled into Jack's chest.
"What did she say?" they asked in between bursts of laughter.
"She said you guys shouldn't be laughing," Jack laughed.
"Why not Jules?" Alex snorted.
"Because you wish you were Jack," I mumbled.
"’Cause you wish you were me," Jack translated. Some of the laughter died down.

"She has a point," Vinny said. I felt Jack reach out and slap him on the arm, then bring it back to hold me close to him.
"But seriously, Jack," Alex laughed.

"Whatever you guys are picking on Julie about is obviously an exaggeration because I know her. She wouldn't do something ridiculous," the frown was evident in Hayley’s voice. I silently thanked her for speaking up for me
"I was pretty close, lemme tell you," Alex snorted. I buried my face deeper into Jack’s shirt. I felt tears starting to form in my eyes.

"Alright guys, drop it." Jack defended me, fixing his arms around me in a more protective manner. Eventually, they all went away one by one. When I finally looked up Jack was the only one standing with me. He was grinning down at me, and I felt my face flush purple all over again.

"It's okay, Alex is just being a dick. Literally," Jack laughed. I couldn't help but join in the laughter.
"Plus, what's the fun in dancing if you can't have a little fun?" he wiggled his eyebrows.
"Jack, please. The sooner we forget about this the better," I shook my head.
"I promise I'll make them drop it. Plus, Alex was so gone he probably doesn't even remember half the shit he said or did."

"Thanks,” I smiled up at him gratefully. Suddenly, a wave of coughing came over me and I had to step back that’s how strong the cough was.
"I don’t think you should go out partying tonight anyways,"
"Me either."
"I'll stay in with you of you want,"
"Oh no, you don't have to do that. Go out and party it up, rock star," I smiled. I was grateful for Jack’s offer, but as far as I was concerned he had to get his party on before his angst got the better of him. I could see it in his eyes; he was ready to kill the audience tonight.

“What’re you smiling about now?” he asked.
“Thinking of how amazing you guys are going to sound tonight,” I grinned. Jack raised his eyebrows at me in a do-you-really-think-so? look.
“Seriously! I know you guys are going to sound great! And I’m going to give you my friends’ tickets and cell phone numbers so that you can help them get into the arena. I would do it but I just don’t feel up to it,” I pulled out my phone and Jack did the same. It was then that a van pulled up at the end of the row of parked cars.

“Are you guys coming with us, or no?” Vinny asked. My stomach growled loudly and we all laughed as I rushed over to the door. I pulled the handle but realized it was locked. I heard Jack’s footsteps behind me. They were getting faster and faster; he was sprinting at the door!

“Vinny!”
“Yes, Julie?” he laughed.
“Open the fucking door!”
“Oh, it’s locked? My bad.” I heard the door unlock but someone was still stopping the door from opening.
“Open the door!” I heard Jack yell. He couldn’t be more than five feet away
“It’s locked! Slow down! Open the door! Open the door!”
“Ahhh!!!” Jack screamed.
“Ahhh!!” I yelled and waited for the weight of his body to be propelled against mine. However, this didn’t happen and my face hit the floor of the van, which was thankfully littered in sleeping bags.

“Fuck you guys!” I exclaimed as I took a seat next to Zack.
“Love you too, boo!” Alex blew a kiss in my direction and I reached out to smack him but Zack held me back. Damn his super strength!

We ended up finding a Wendys and decided it would be more fun to stay. Turns out we weren’t the only ones who had this idea. The Rev, Brian, Paramore, and the All-American Rejects were also here. I told Jack what I wanted and walked over to Hayley’s table.

“What, you don’t even say hello anymore?” I heard the Rev scoff. He was so loud half the place went quiet. He probably looked like some creepy, old, rocker guy trying to get a few teenagers’ attention.

“Hello, Jimmy,” I waved, not even bothering to look back.
“What about me?” I heard Brian ask. I decided to be an ass; I stood up and walked over to their table and gave him a big hug.
“Hello, Brian! I missed you!”

We all burst out laughing at the Rev, who proceeded to give me the finger.

“There are children in here!” I quickly snapped his hand down.
“They’re all gunna give it to someone at one point eventually,” he shrugged, taking a huge chunk out of his food.
“You’re so gross,” I laughed as I returned to my seat.

“So, things are going okay with Alex and Jack?” Hayley asked as I shrugged off my hoodie. It was cold out, but I was pretty sure the medicine was wearing off and I was getting another fever.
“Yeah,” I smiled.
“Aren’t you a little cold?” Jeremy asked, referring to my tank top.
“No. I think the medicine is wearing off,” I pouted.
“We should take it to go then.”
“Nah, I can make it. We’ll only be here for, like, another hour.”
“Alright, if you say so…”

The rest of the guys joined our table and we joked and ate for about an hour. Before we left, I made sure to give Hayley my friends’ numbers too. Jack was most likely going to forget and Hayley would be more…accepting of who I was allowing to take my ticket tonight.

“He’s really weird and hormonal, don’t get offended if he tries to do anything,” I explained as I gave her Jimmy’s number. Yeah, I was letting Jimmy take my place. I could have invited Mike or someone else, but I felt bad for Jimmy. He always tried hard to make a good impression on people, even if he was a horn dog. To me, he seemed like a combination between the Rev, Jack, and Alex. The combination basically equaled disaster.

“Billie and Tom will keep an eye on him, so don’t worry too much.”
“Mentally noted… Are you sure you’re not going to come to the concert or the after-party?”
“Yeah,” I nodded solemnly.
“But c’mon. It’s no fun without you,” she pouted.
“I’m sorry. I’m just not up to it today.”
“Maybe if you take your meds you’ll feel better?”
“Even with the medicine I still have a really bad cough,” I frowned.
“Ugh. I’m gunna miss ya’,” she sighed in defeat.
“Sorry.”
“It’s okay… So Billie, Kat, Juliana, Tom, and Jimmy are coming and they are in the third row from the stage and they have backstage passes?” she wanted to confirm all of her information.
“Yeah,” I nodded.
“Alright. Sounds like I got everything,” she smiled.

“We should get going guys, it’s like 3,” Hunter spoke up.
“Alright. See you guys back home,” Tyson and his band stood up and left. The Rev and Brian joined in the procession outside. Finally, after prying Zack and Alex out of their seats – they were so lazy sometimes – we got everyone outside in the parking lot.

“Who wants to drive? I’m stuffed,” Vinny patted his stomach to show he was not up to driving.
“I’ll drive,” Jack volunteered.
“No! I value my life. Plus, I have a girlfriend to get home to,” Zack protested with a smile on his face.
“Julie?” Alex asked.
“It’s been a while,” I admitted. I had only gotten my permit before we left the RV Center, not my license.
“That’s alright, we’ll be here,” Alex held out his arms to showcase his band, who nodded encouragingly.
“Well, alright,” I shrugged, taking the keys from Vinny, who did not quite look convinced of my abilities.

“Bro, trust me, she’s good,” Rian patted his shoulder before climbing into the back seat. Jack took the passenger seat and Alex took the seat behind me so that he and Jack could still talk. He was leaning right over my shoulder.

“Alex, you’re gunna have to back off a bit,” I held up my fingers in a pinch.
“Oh, sorry,” he slid back in his seat and I felt a little better. I started the ignition and waited until everyone had their seatbelts on.

“Ready?” I asked.
“Yup!”
“Woohoo!”
“Let’s go!”
“Alright,” I laughed.

I turned halfway in my seat and rested my hand on the passenger seat so that I could back out. I felt everyone watching me and I couldn’t help but smile. I saw Vinny nod in approval.

“Can you put on some music?” I asked Jack.
“Sure thing,” he nodded and turned on the radio.

“Eh I’m tired of this station. Change it,” Alex sighed after the first song finished. Jack nodded and reached out and hit the ‘search’ button. A country station came on and I heard everyone start snickering.
“I’m not feeling this,” Alex laughed.
“This is Garth Brooks!” I spoke up.
“You like country?”
“I listen to everything… My dad liked country…” I trailed off and I heard everyone fall silent.
“You can change it though, I’m not a fan of this song anyways,” I added.

After flicking through every channel Jack decided on a CD. Naturally, Blink-182 burst through the speakers. I slowly took one hand off the wheel and reached out to turn it up.

“Oh, go Jules!” Vinny exclaimed at my adventurous move. Everyone burst out laughing and we all began singing along.

“God I love music,” I sighed contentedly.
“Same,” everyone replied.

“So,” I reached out and lowered the volume as I talked, “my friends are coming to see the show today and I want you guys to be nice.”
“Aren’t we always nice?”
“Any of your friends single?” Vinny asked.
“If you’re into guys, yeah,” I laughed.
“Mmm, I don’t know about that one,” I saw him grin at me through the rearview mirror.
“Yeah. I have more guy friends than girl friends. It’s so much easier hanging out and stuff… Anyways, my, um, friend Jimmy is a character. Don’t get mad at him. He’s a little rough on the edges. Alex and him should get along well, unless you don’t like people who remind you of yourself,” I laughed.
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“You’ll see. My friends are insane,” I shook my head and as I turned off of the freeway.

I pulled into the lot of the arena 10 minutes later and parked the van with ease.

“Thanks for letting me drive, guys,” I smiled as I cut the engine.
“No problem!”
“You’re really good!”
“Thanks,” I beamed at Vinny’s compliment, “Well, have a good show. Wish everyone good luck for me.” I gave them all hugs – except for Jack who got a kiss on the cheek.
“We’ll miss ya’!” They waved me off.
“Bye!” I waved and walked back to the bus where the guys were currently hanging out.

“Hey look who got back from lunch!” Ray smiled at me as I shut the door.
“What’s up?” Frank asked.
“Do you know where Gerard and Lindsey put my medicine? It wore off and I’m dying,” I sighed.
“Oh! Um, I think it’s here,” Mikey stood up and walked over to the cabinet above the sink. He rummaged for a few seconds before finding the tiny yellow bottle of pills. I felt my stomach lurch. I hated pills. Whenever I take them I feel like I’m choking myself.

“Here you go.”
“Thanks,” I nodded solemnly. I sat down at the table where Frank and Ray were and stared at the yellow bottle.

“You have to take them,” Frank said.
“I know, but I can’t do it!” I whined.
“Yes you can! It’s the only way you’re gunna get better. How did you take the first one?” Ray asked.
“I had to keep trying until it was almost gone.” I shivered involuntarily at the memory of the putrid taste the pill had when the shiny layer wore off. I had almost thrown up; it was that disgusting.

“Well, what I used to do was take a big drink of water and swish it around so that I didn’t know where it was,” Mikey said.
“Alright, I’ll try that.”

I opened the bottle and tapped out one of the medium sized pills. I popped it inside my mouth and hastily gulped as much water as I could. After a second try I got it to go down.

“That was a little easier,” I said as I wiped my mouth.
“See? Not too bad,” he smiled.
“I’m gunna try to take a nap, okay?”
“Alright.”
“Rest up, Jules! We need you for Pennsylvania!”
“Okay, I will,” I gave them a salute before heading over to my bunk.

I decided to stay on top of the covers and keep the curtain open since I was still really hot from the fever. As I lied there I thought about how much fun it would have been to be at the concert and began to get upset. I could go if I really wanted to, regardless if I had a ticket or not; Brad would let me. But at the same time I thought of how it would feel to be with Tom and Jimmy for the whole night and I felt a wave of sadness sweep over me. There were so many good and bad memories tied to the both of them – especially Tom.

My thoughts were cut short by the sound of the front door opening. I listened intently to hear what was going on.

“Hey, guys. Is Julie back yet?” Lindsey asked.
“Yeah, she just went to take a nap. She took her medicine and everything but she said she still felt hot.”
“Oh, okay. Lemme go check on her.”

I heard footsteps coming my way and I scrambled to pull out one of my pillows and prop it against my back like I normally did when I was asleep. Lindsey was only a few steps away. I slowed down my breathing, despite my body not liking the lack of oxygen, and made it look like I had just turned over in my sleep.

I heard Lindsey rest one knee on the floor next to my bunk and take a look at me. I tried not to flinch when her hand suddenly came into contact with my forehead, but I covered the flinch with another fidget.

“Poor thing,” a frown was evident in her voice. I heard her stand up and walk over to the bathroom. The sound of running water reached my ears and rummaging soon followed. Finally the footsteps came back and stopped at my bunk again. I could not hold back the gasp that escaped my lips when I felt a cold rag come into contact with my forehead and arms.

“How’s she doing?” I heard Gerard ask, suddenly appearing out of nowhere.
“She has a fever again. Maybe she just has to sweat it out,” Lindsey sighed. I heard Gerard pull her into a hug.
“She’ll be alright. It’s not easy going on tour for the first time, you know that.”
“Yeah, you would know too,” she smiled back at him. I heard Gerard kiss her on the lips quickly before the both went back to the front of the bus.

After that, I fell into a fitful sleep. I could not get comfy and the fever got worse and worse. Finally, after about two hours, I blacked out.

*

I woke up to the sounds of people yelling and music blasting. I sat up, drenched in sweat, and shakily pulled back the curtain that covered the window in my bunk. I didn’t have my glasses on, but from what I could see, almost everyone on tour was outside partying. I let the curtain fall back into place and stood up. I had to change into new clothes before I died of disgust. I knew I had to take a shower, but I was so worn out that I could not bring myself to hop in and turn on the water.

I settled for Bermuda shorts, a tank top, and my boots – who cared what I wore? And then applied some deodorant and sprayed some of my perfume. I walked to the front of the bus and got myself a bottle of water.

I saw my glasses on the kitchen table and put them on. I walked over to the kitchen sink window and pulled back the curtain. This time, I could see everything. MSI’s bus, Avenged’s bus, and the vans were all packed with people. I saw Gerard and Lindsey talking to what looked like Frank and Jamia! I instantly longed to run out and say hello. She and Alicia were my favorite out of the MCR wives aside from Lindsey.

I quickly searched for Alicia and found her making out with Mikey against the side of Paramore’s van. They looked so perfect together and I quickly began searching for my wonderful boyfriend. I didn’t see him outside, so I figured he was on one of the buses. As I did another scan, I saw Kat and Zack sitting on the edge of the trunk of ATL’s van, which was propped open. They were just sitting there, snuggling and talking; sharing an occasional kiss. They were so adorable it hurt!

Suddenly, I saw a whole bunch of people running off of Avenged’s bus. I watched as Alex, Billie, Jack, Tyson, Nick, Ryan, Jimmy, and Chris ran outside and began singing Don’t Stop Believing at the top of their lungs. I felt a grin break out on my face as I saw Alex wrap his arm around Jack drunkenly as they sang. At least they were back to normal. I saw Juliana and Tom stumble outside and begin laughing. I found myself smiling at their sheer happiness.

Suddenly, I saw someone point in my direction and I quickly closed the curtain and sat down at the table. Hopefully they would be so drunk they would forget about me. I looked at the time; it was only 12:34 in the morning. The show had ended around what, 10 or 11? This party was just starting. I sighed and hoped that the person who had pointed in my direction got confused or fell down or something. I didn’t want to ruin their fun…

THUMP THUMP THUMP

I sat frozen in my chair. Someone was knocking on the front door of the bus. The sound of many voices reached my ears and I figured it was the Journey crowd. Was I mentally ready to go out there and jump into the party and the peer pressure? I am on prescription medicine, drinking is the last thing I should be doing…

“JULIE!” I heard someone yell. More thumps followed along the side of the bus. The alarm would go off any minute now, unless Jerry had deactivated it.
“JULIE WE KNOW YOU’RE AWAKE!”
“YEAH! COME PARTAAAAY!”

I let out a scream when a tap came from the kitchen sink window. I turned and saw Alex’s face through the crack in the curtains.

“SHE’S AWAKE! I SEE HER!” he shouted drunkenly. There was no way I could ever escape this one. I sighed and stood up, grabbing my key off the hook by the door and shoving it inside my pocket.

“HEYYYY! THERE SHE IS!” I heard Tyson yell as I opened the door.

“Julie!” Jack stumbled over to me and pulled me into him, his had grasping my waist a little too firmly. His breath was laced with alcohol and a childish grin was plastered on his face. Despite his silly demeanor, his eyes showed nothing but lust.
“Hey, Jack. Can I close the door?” I squirmed out of his grasp and turned to lock the door.

“Hey, Julie!” Jimmy shouted and stomped over to me. I quickly took Jack’s arm and wrapped it around my waist for protection. If it were between Jack’s hands and Jimmy’s hands, I wanted Jack’s.

“Hey, Jimmy! How was the concert?”
“It was fucking awesome!” He slurred.
“Oh, that’s good,” I smiled.
“Yeah! …Tommy’s looking for ya’,” he pointed in the direction of the party.
“Oh, really?” I asked, trying to mask the worry in my voice.
“Yeah! He totally still has the hots for ya’,” he laughed. I felt my face blush and Jack pulled me closer to him. I looked up to see Jack’s goofy grin fade slightly.

“Hey, she’s mine!”
“Lucky bastard,” Jimmy laughed.

“-Hey! Let’s go get more beer!” Vinny suddenly appeared out of nowhere and everyone cheered and began following him.

Jack and Jimmy stood staring at each other for one awkward second – both of them clearly not remembering what they had just been talking about – before shrugging and walking off. I had no choice but to follow. As we walked, I noticed Jack and Jimmy were the same height, they flanked me like body guards and I felt my face flush as everyone turned to stare at me.

“Hey!”
“Jules!”
“Woohoo! Yeah Jack!”
“Julie!”
“Julie?”
“Who is dat?”

“Julie, what are you doing out here? Where’s your jacket?” I saw Hayley appear before me, completely sober.
“Oh, hey. And they attacked the bus I had no choice. They were gunna break in,” I gave her a you-know-how-they-get look.
“Sorry about that, I tried to keep them away. It’s like 36 degrees out, though.”
“It’s fine and don’t worry mom,” I grinned and she returned the expresson, “I’ll get a hoodie.”

“Jack?” I asked.
“Yes sexy?” He turned to stare at me. I felt my face flush and saw a grin break out on his face.
“Can I have your hoodie?”
“Sure thang,” he winked, let go of my waist, and drunkenly began pulling off his hoodie. I saw him starting to teeter so I held onto his torso. He finished pulling it over his head and gave it to me.
“Thanks,” I smiled.
“Anytime, babe.” I felt my face flush again. Since when did he start calling me these pet names, for lack of a better term? It must be the beer. I pulled his hoodie on and immediately felt a little warmer, not that I had been cold to begin with, but at least Hayley would feel a little better.

“C’mon! Let’s go!” Jack pulled on my hand and began walking through the crowd. I looked back and saw Hayley wave at me. I gave her a no!-come-with-us look but she just smiled and shooed us away. I turned back to face the direction we were walking, Jack was leading us towards Avenged’s bus. I sighed wearily and prepared myself for the worst.

The bus was utter mayhem. There were people dancing, grinding, eating, drinking, making out, sleeping, laughing, and passing out everywhere. Jack finally led us through the crowd and stopped in front of the fridge. I should have guessed he would come here to get something to drink.

“Do you wan’ anythin’?” he slurred.
“No, I had a drink before,” I called to him over the music. I didn’t tell him it was water; that would only make him want to give me something.
“You sure?”
“Yes,” I smiled.
“Alrighty then,” he shrugged and pulled out a can of Budweiser. He cracked the top and chugged half of it. I shook my head and gave him a you’re-crazy-but-I-still-love-ya’ look.

After he finished the can he took my hand and we started dancing to the beat. It was pretty fun, considering the fact that I was as sober as a nun on a Monday morning. When Jack got tired of dancing he pulled me over to the side and leaned in to kiss me. I clapped a hand over my mouth and shook my head.

“Hey! Why’d you do that?” he frowned childishly.
“I’m sick, remember?”
“No…”
“Well, I’m sick Jack. I don’t wanna get you sick too.”
“I don’ care,” he shook his head.
“I do,” I furrowed my brow.
“Mmm no fair!” He whined.
“I’m sorry,” I pouted.
“Prove it.”

I sighed exasperatingly. How was I supposed to do that? I held up my pointer finger and leaned in to give him a kiss of the cheek. Before my lips connected with his face, he turned and crushed his lips against mine. I stumbled back at the weight of his body and he placed his hands on my waist. I found myself kissing him back and allowing him entrance into my mouth, which made him go crazy.

‘His ass better not yell at me for getting him sick,’ I thought to myself as he continued to dominate our make-out session.

Suddenly, kissing wasn’t enough for Jack and he began to rock his hips back and forth. I pulled back a little bit and I heard him whine.

“Jack,” I gasped.
“C’mon,” he begged, giving a little hip thrust as he did so.
“I can’t do this, not with everyone here,” I felt my cheeks flush.
“Pleaseee! We never have any fun,” he frowned.
“I’m sorry, I-I’m not ready for something like this.”
“Ugh. I’ve never went this long without kissing someone!”
“Three days?”
“C’mon. Do you not like me anymore?” I felt my heart twinge.
“Of course I like you Jack, I love you.”
“Well, you don’t wanna kiss me!” he sighed exasperatingly.
“I’m sick and you know I’ve never had a boyfriend before.”
“You know what? You need anothur beer,” Jack slurred.
“I told you, I had something already-”
“No, no, no, no, no, no. You need a beer,” he pulled my hand and led us back over to the fridge.

He reached for another Budweiser but I stopped him and grabbed a Mike’s Hard Lemonade instead.
“Alright, I’ll take it,” he smiled.

I popped off the cap, placed my thumb over the top, and pretended to take a sip. Jack didn’t seem to notice that none of the drink was disappearing as we went back to dancing. After I had held the drink for about four songs I put the drink down on the counter and Jack led us back over to the spot we had been in before. We were in a lip lock for a good 10 minutes before Jack had to leave to go to the bathroom.

When he came back I felt sleep starting to close in on me. I stifled a yawn and Jack couldn’t help but mimic my action.

“Hey, you made me yawn,” he grinned that goofy grin again.
“Sorry,” I shrugged lazily.

“You know something? I love you,” his voice suddenly went soft and he pulled me into a hug. I tried not to laugh; I knew it was the alcohol doing it to him.
“I love you too.”
“I’m sorry I’m such a dick all the time.”
“Ha- It’s okay, I’m sorry for being a bitch all the time,” I chuckled and patted his back soothingly.
“No, you’re such a good, nice person. I-I’m the one who’s bad.”
“Jack, do you hear what you’re saying?” I sounded like I was talking to a kindergartener; it was pretty funny.
“I’m a f-fucking mess.”
“Aw, it’s okay. C’mere,” I hugged him comfortingly. I pulled back to look at his face.
“Don’t start crying,” I pleaded softly. Even though the whole situation was funny, Jack was still upset which made me feel bad. I wasn’t going to just let him break down and feel sorry for himself in front of everyone; I had to be there for him. He shook his head and blinked hard to fight back his emotions.

“C’mon, follow me,” I took him by the hand and led him off the bus.

“Everything alright?” I turned and saw Hayley excuse herself from her conversation Jeremy and Hunter, and begin walking towards us.
“Yeah,” I nodded then pretended to wipe away a tear so that I didn’t have to scream to the world that my boyfriend was crying. I didn’t want him to lose all of his pride.

“Ohhh okay. See you tomorrow, then?” she asked, a smile on her face.
“Yeah,” I smiled and waved before continuing towards MCR’s bus.

“Do you wanna lay down on the couch? Or do you want to sleep on a bunk?” I asked softly. He said nothing, just silently stood there, a tear running down his cheek.
“Aw Jack. Don’t cry, baby,” I pulled him into a quick hug before taking his hand and leading him to the back of the bus where the couch was.

I sat down and he plopped down right next to me, still crying. I pouted and took one of the pillows and put it on my lap. I patted it and he laid his head down on it. I rested my hand on his shoulder and rubbed it. He began crying harder still, and I began to look for a tissue. Thankfully, there was a box on the table next to me and I grabbed one and held it out to him. He took it and blew his nose.

I sighed tiredly and absentmindedly began massaging his head. The top of his hair was hard from all of the hairspray, but the roots were so soft it almost put my hair to shame. Jack sniffled and took a shaky breath.

“Shh, it’s okay,” I whispered. Eventually, he curled up his legs and drifted off. I leaned over and stole a glance at his face; his brow was still furrowed. I continued to rub his head, this time massaging his temples. His face became more relaxed and finally, a look of peace came over him. I propped up my head with one hand and continued my soothing technique with the other. I knew it would work because my mom used to do it to me all the time whenever I wasn’t feeling good.

The last thing I remembered was the feeling of Jack’s hair in-between my fingers and my other wrist going numb.

**

“Oh my God. They are so adorable!” I heard a familiar female voice squeal silently. I suddenly became aware that my back was propped up and stiff, and my left arm felt completely dead. I opened my eyes and saw Jamia, Alicia, and Lindsey standing in the doorway.

“Oh! Did I wake you up? I’m sorry, hun’,” Jamia pouted. I looked down and saw a passed out Jack still asleep on my lap. The tissue he had used last night was still caught in his iron grip.
“No, it’s alright. My arm would have probably needed to be amputated if I didn’t wake up now,” I whispered in reply. I slowly extended my arm and fought back the moan of pain that threatened to escape my lips.

“How’re you feeling?” Lindsey asked.
“Actually, a lot better,” I offered her a sleepy smile as I continued to move my arm.
“Good to hear. You still have to take your medicine though.” I felt my stomach drop. Those damn pills would be the death of me.
“You don’t like taking medicine? Me either,” Alicia gave me a sympathetic look.
“You have to take the next dose at, like, 1.”
“What time is it now?” I asked.
“Umm, 11:28,” Jamia snapped her phone shut.
“Okay,” I nodded wearily.
“Do you want anything to eat?”
“No, I can wait,” I looked down at Jack and smiled.

“Oh my God. They are so adorable I can’t take it!” Jamia squealed.
“Shh, you’ll wake him up,” Alicia hit her playfully on the arm, a big smile on her face.
“You know we’re going to be in Jersey for more than just two days,” Lindsey smiled.
“Seriously?”
“Yup. We have another show tonight and tomorrow. It’s more expensive to play in New York City so we have more shows in Jersey to make up for it. So after everyone wakes up we’re gunna head back to the house, alright?”
“Yeah, sounds good to me,” I smiled.
“Okay, call one of us if you need anything.”

The three girls went to the front of the bus and I was left to my thoughts. I was excited about being in Jersey; I would have more time to hang out with everyone. Yeah, I was still nervous about it, but at least everyone would be over the hype from the show and we could just hang out like normal people. I looked down at Jack and smiled, he was so cute when he slept! I just hoped he had recovered from his little spurt of depression. To be honest, I had no idea exactly what he was crying about. He had told me he was a “fuckup”, but aren’t we all? I wouldn’t push the matter; he was probably just stressed about the whole tour thing.

Around what I assumed to be 12:30, Jack woke up.

“Owwww. Oh, hey…” he trailed off when he saw me. I giggled quietly and gave him a small wave.
“What happened last night?” he asked.
“A lot,” I smiled softly. He looked down at his hand and saw the tissue. Slowly, he connected two and two and I saw a blush creep up his neck.
“Was I… crying?” I nodded and he face palmed.
“It’s alright. No one saw you.”
“Oh, okay,” he sighed in relief.
“Yeah…” I trailed off.
“Thanks,” he offered me a smile.
“No problem,” I returned the expression.

“You know, you have really soft hair,” I grinned down at him.
“What?” he laughed but winced at the pain.
“I was rubbing your head last night. Like this,” I brought a hand down to his hair and massaged his head. I saw his whole body relax.
“That feels so fucking good,” he grinned.
“I know… my mom used to do that to me when I didn’t feel good. That and rub my back.”
“Mm your mom passed down her amazing abilities,” he closed his eyes and I began laughing. Our whole conversation sounded so wrong. He opened his eyes and caught onto my laughter and couldn’t help but join in.

“You don’t seem too hung over,” I commented as we sat there.
“I think the head rubbing helps,” he smiled.
“Me too.”
“Damn. I could sit here all day.”
“That’s good to know,” I laughed. Suddenly, his stomach growled. “What, does it make you hungry too?”
“Yeah, I guess so,” he grinned.
“Well, let’s go eat then,” I pulled my hand away from his soft locks and he whined like a little kid.
“C’mon, up you go,” I pushed his shoulder lightly.
“But you make such a good couch.”
“Well, I may be a good couch but this couch isn’t a good couch at all. I’m pretty sure my back is frozen stiff,” I laughed quietly.
“Oh, sorry,” he gave me an apologetic look before slowly sitting up.

My legs instantly felt cold from the lack of body heat and I quickly stood up and set the pillow back on the sofa the way it had been. When Jack stood up I looked back at the couch and saw that the imprints of our bodies were still in the couch.

“Look,” I pointed. Jack turned and saw the imprints.
“Damn,” he shook his head slowly.
“C’mon. Let’s go eat!” I lead the way out to the front of the bus. I heard Jack stretching and popping his back as we went

“Well, look who rolled off of the couch!” Jamia smiled.

I turned and saw Jack freeze. He was not expecting a bus full of MCR wives. He was mid stretch and was quickly trying to fix his shirt and hair, which was now completely flat from all of the head rubbing.

“Um, hi,” he said.
“Jamia, Alicia, this is Jack. Jack, this is Jamia and Alicia, Frank and Mikey’s wives.”
“I’m so happy the two of you are together,” Jamia gushed to Jack. I felt my face flush and I quickly rushed over to the fridge to hide my face.
“Ha ha, thanks,” the grin was evident in Jack’s voice.

“Do you want some Tylenol, hun?” Lindsey asked Jack.
“Um, sure,” he nodded. I heard Lindsey rummaging through the cabinet as I got out the orange juice and Poptarts.

“And you, missy, have to take these,” she held out the yellow bottle to me and I shook my head.
“What’s wrong with it?” Jack asked, leaning against the counter and popping the Tylenol into his mouth. He reached out for my orange juice and I passed it to him. He took a little sip and handed it back to me, swallowing the pill on one easy gulp.

“Julie never took pills before this. She doesn’t like them,” Lindsey explained. I felt my face blush as Jack turned to give me a questioning look.
“I feel like I’m choking myself, okay?” I sighed and put two Poptarts into the toaster.

“It’s not that bad,” he shrugged cockily.
“Look, I have issues, alright?” I rolled my eyes.

“Oh my God. Even when they fight they’re cute,” I heard Jamia squeal. Lindsey and Alicia turned to grill her and she fell silent, taking a sip of her coffee.

“Just pop it in your mouth and swallow it,” he tried to fight back the grin that was threatening to appear on his lips. I turned away to “check on the Poptarts” before I started laughing. I could not believe he just said something like that in front of them!

“C’mon. It’s 1 o’clock; you have to take it,” Lindsey held out the bottle to me again. I sighed and took the bottle from her and shook out one of the ugly white pills.

“Go ahead,” she encouraged me with a warning look. I tossed the pill into my mouth and quickly took a big gulp of orange juice. Once again, it took me two times to get it down. I sighed and felt my face flush in embarrassment. I hated it when people watched me at my weakest moments…

“See? Not that bad,” Jack walked over, wrapped an arm around my waist, and kissed the top of my head before reaching over and grabbing one of the Poptarts I had made for us out of the toaster. I heard Jamia stifle a squeal and I felt a smile break out onto my face.

The three wives scooched over for us as we sat down at the table to eat our brunch of champions.

“So, where is everyone else?” I asked, referring to their husbands.
“Oh, they’re all still on Avenged Sevenfold’s bus,” Alicia rolled her eyes with a smile on her face.
“Oh, alright,” I laughed.
“Yeah. Last night was crazy! They guys had all of their friends come out, and yours were there too, right?” Jamia asked me, talking as animatedly as ever.
“Yeah, they all came to see the show.”
“That’s great that you still keep in touch with them,” she gave me an approving nod.
“I try my best!”
“You’re doing a good job, don’t worry,” Lindsey smiled.

“Wait until we get closer to Maryland,” Jack grinned.
“Oh God. I don’t even want to know what the rest of your friends are like,” I widened my eyes in pretend fear.
“Don’t worry, they won’t attack you… viciously,” he laughed. Everyone joined in and we sat there for a half an hour, just talking like that.

“Well, we wanna head over to the house for a bit, Bailey and Bandit are there already; that’s where they’re gunna be for the rest of this stop,” Lindsey explained.
“I’m gunna go change then,” I stood up and brought my cup and plate over to the sink.
“I think I left my shoes in the back,” Jack stood up and mimicked my actions.
“Yeah, you did,” I nodded.
“Okay, I’m gunna go get them,” he rushed off to the back and Jamia turned to Alicia and Lindsey and squealed again.

“You guys are so perfect for each other, its not even funny,” she gushed to me.
“Thanks,” I grinned.
“Okay, I got them,” Jack announced as he came back, his shoes half on and half off. He stopped to fix the heels before giving me a hug and turning towards the door.
“Bye, guys, thanks for letting me eat your food!” He waved.

“Jack, wait! Do you want your hoodie back?” I asked referring to the one I had borrowed from him last night.
“Nah, it’s alright,” he shrugged with a smile.
“Okay. Text you later!”
“Bye!” he sent me a big grin and left the bus, closing the door softly behind him.

“I’m gunna go change,” I announced as I walked to the back of the bus. A smile was still on my face as I gathered a new outfit and hopped into the shower. Today was going to be a good day, I could tell.
