Rock and Roll Ruined My Life

Detention And Dinner

Rock And Roll Ruined My Life- Chapter 21- Detention And Dinner

The gang and I were trying so hard not to laugh as all of us lined up outside the detention room. Mr. Heilburg, the teacher assigned detention duty, was in shock as the detention slips piled high on his desk. I was in the back and Jimmy was standing in front of me. Things were a bit awkward between us now, but he didn’t know about anything until this morning so what ever, I’m sure things will even out later.

As I put my detention slip on the desk. I heard my name being called all over the classroom. Mr. Heilburg looked up threateningly and everyone went silent. As Mr. Heilburg was putting a rubber band around the stack of slips, I saw Billie wave to me and motion to a seat next to him and his friends. I nodded, and headed to the back of the room. I smiled at everyone as I sat down next to Billie, Lizzy, JoAnn, Mike, Juliana, and Tom.

I saw all of them take out their phones and I followed suit. However, I didn’t have anyone to text! The only people in my contact list were all of the numbers I had before the crash, including my mom and dad’s old phone numbers, plus all of the guys from MCR and their wives. I pulled up Tim’s number and decided to text him: heyy, whats up? Once it sent I waited for a reply. Suddenly my phone began ringing and ‘Highway To Hell’ started blasting. I felt my face go red as I stood up.

“Mr. Heilburg can I please take this call? It’s my da- I mean one of my legal guardians.” I bit my lip, only two more rings until it went to voice mail.
“Very well, but you better come right back,” he sighed.
“I will. Thank you!” I ran out of the classroom and shut the door.

“Hello?” I said as I opened my phone.
“Where are you?” Gerard’s voice asked.
“I’m in school.”
“Why? I’m here to pick you up!”
“I got detention…” I said as I grabbed my neck and paced back and forth past the detention room door.
“For what? You didn’t do anything really wrong did you?”
“No, no, no, no, no, no! I was late for homeroom.”
“Seriously, Jules? I dropped you off like 20 minutes before the bell was supposed to ring.”
“I know but I started talking to my friends and we got all caught up.”
“Okay, but I have to go to a meeting in LA and the guys are coming too and none of the girls will have the cars for a while until they can get them from the airport,” Gerard said.
“Oh. Well I can always walk home,” I suggested already knowing the answer to that proposition.
“Are you CRAZY?!” I jumped and held the phone away from my ear.
“Just a little bit,” I muttered. “You know what? I’ll get one of my friends to drive me home, no problem. There are enough of them who will be willing to, trust me.”
“Alright. I’ll call Lindsey and tell her. I have to go. Make sure you go back to the detention room, okay? No skipping detention,” he said. The smile was evident in his voice.
“Oh please, Gerard. You shouldn’t even be talking. I’m not a teenage, female version of you. I actually listen to authoritative figures,” I laughed. I was still pacing back and forth; it’s a habit of mine.
“Yeah, you got me there,” he laughed. “Okay gotta go bye.” He hung up. I sighed and headed back into the classroom.

“I’m back,” I announced.
“Just have a seat,” Mr. Heilburg replied. I nodded and took my seat.

My phone buzzed again. It was a text message from Tim. It read: hey Juliet. i miss you. nothing much is happening here in new york. hbu?
I smiled and wrote back immediately: I miss you too. Nd I got detention lol. I put my phone on my desk and sat back waiting for a reply. Suddenly, a hand appeared and snatched my phone. I turned to see Billie typing something. My heart dropped. What if he was gunna’ text something to Tim and get him upset?

“Billie! Give it back please!” I whispered. He didn’t reply he just kept typing. “What the heck are you doing? Billie, I was talking to someone!” He waved a hand at me and kept typing. I heard my phone buzz again. I made a grab for it but he just ignored the text and kept on typing in something. Finally he passed the phone back to me and smiled politely. I gave him an exasperated look, rolled my eyes, and checked my phone again. There was nothing on the screen except for an alert that Tim had texted me.

“What did you do?” I asked him.
“Check your contacts,” he muttered while taking out his phone. I opened the list and gasped. He had put everyone’s numbers in there… by MEMORY. I turned to him, tapped him on the arm. “Thank you!”
“Yeah, no problem,” he replied smiling again.

‘Who to text?’ I wondered to myself. I decided to text everyone at the same time so they all got my number. I selected all of their contacts and wrote: heyyy guys this is Juliet and hit send.

Almost instantly everyone turned to look at me. I tried to stifle my laughter. I got about 16 texts back. I scrolled through the names hoping to see one from Tom, but to my dismay he hadn’t replied. I began to have conversations with everyone, totally forgetting about Tim. Before I realized it an hour had gone by and we all filed out of the classroom. I saw everyone separate into cliques and I knew I would have to choose one eventually. I headed over to where Stacie, Brian, and Matt were.

“Hey Julie! We got your text,” Stacie said smiling.
“That’s good,” I smiled back. “Um, do any of you have a car?”
“No, sadly,” Brian replied.
“It’s okay, I’ll just go ask Kat or Lauren,” I smiled.
“Alright! I’ll text you later!” Stacie called after me. I nodded, waved good bye. I spotted Kat and walked over to her.

“Heyyy Kat!”
“Hey Julie! What’s up?”
“Um, do you have a car?”
“Ha ha, me driving? That’s a good one! You can ask anyone here, I suck at it!” She laughed. I laughed too.
“Do you know of anyone here who would have a car?”
“Billie. He has a car. I think he’s like the only one who has a car…” Kat trailed off.
“Okay thank you!” I replied giving her a quick hug. “I’ll text you later!” I called as I set off toward the parking lot to find Billie. I felt really bad asking him for a favor because we weren’t really all that close. I’m pretty sure he has a girlfriend too so I don’t want to cause any drama because he gave me a ride home.

I wasn’t sure where to look. There were still a lot of cars in the parking lot. I scanned the parking lot and then I spotted someone familiar. My heart fluttered. It wasn’t Billie; it was Tom. I took a deep breath and walked over.

“Hey, Tom?”
“What? Oh hey, Juliet,” he replied looking up from the ground.
“Do you know where Billie is?” I asked.
“Yeah, he went to go get his car. I get a ride home from him. But, if it’s something important you’re probably better off asking someone else because Juliana went with him to go get the car,” he laughed. I looked at him confused.
“They’re going out,” he clarified. I felt my cheeks turn red.
“Oh. I didn’t know that.”
“It’s okay. Do you want me to ask him something for you?” He was so sweet! I smiled.
“I was actually going to ask if I could have a ride home too.”
“Oh. I’m sure he won’t mind. Just wait here he’ll take you.”
“Okay,” I replied putting my book-bag on the floor and leaning against the fence.

There was an awkward silence.

“Soo, where’s JoAnn, Lizzy, and Mike?” I asked.
“They take the bus together. They live far away so it’s easier for them to just hop on and get off on the last stop.”
“Yeah, I guess it is easier to just do that,” I agreed. He nodded.

“I live next door to Billie so I just catch a ride with him,” he told me.
“Oh! That’s convenient! I could walk home, but Gerard and Lindsey are all paranoid now so I don’t. To be honest, I’m still kind of scared myself. To go out by myself. In New York there were always people around and Tim was always there. And my parents were always home and ready to come and pick me up when I needed to be picked up…” It was so easy to talk to him. But I felt bad for doing so.

“I’m sorry for dumping all of that on you,” I apologized.
“No, it’s fine. Who’s Tim? If you don’t mind me asking,” he replied.
I felt my cheeks turn red again, “Well, he’s my boyfriend…”
I saw his shoulders slump, “Oh okay. That’s cool.” I felt really bad now… Almost as if it was planned, Billie pulled up with Juliana in the passenger seat. Both of their lips looked raw. Juliana rolled down the window so Billie could speak.

“Hey, Juliet! What happened?” He asked.
“I was wondering if I could have a ride home, but only if it’s convenient for you,” I said.
“No problem! Hop in the back with Tommy.” I nodded and went back to grab my school bag. Tom had gotten in before me so I just slid in next to him. I could have swore I saw Billie and Juliana give Tom a thumbs up sign before I got in the car. What was all of that about? I sighed and closed the door.

“Where to?” Billie asked in a fake British voice. I laughed and decided to go along with it.
“420 Center Street, James!”
“Onward!” he said putting his foot down on the gas. I have to admit, I was scared he was going to drive really fast, but he didn’t. He went the speed limit, which was perfect with me. He put on the radio and Avril Lavigne came on. I love Avril Lavigne!! When the song stopped Billie and Juliana clapped.

“What?” I asked.
“You were singing,” Juliana said.
“You sounded really good!” Billie added. I felt myself blush again.
“Oh, was I? I didn’t even realize. I’m sorry.”
“Don’t be sorry you sounded really good!” Juliana said. I saw Billie give Tom a glance.

“Yeah, you did sound good,” Tom added. I smiled,
“Thanks.”

As we continued to drive, I realized I knew practically every song that the radio station played, so I decided to sing along. By the time we got to my house I’m pretty sure everyone in the car was singing! Even Tom!

**************************************************************************************************

“Thank you for the ride!” I said as I hopped out of the car.
“No problem! See ya’ tomorrow!” Billie replied. As the car pulled away Tom turned and waved goodbye. My heart fluttered again. I shook the feeling off as I remembered Tim, who I had to remain faithful to.

I walked up to the door and rang the bell. I had to ring it twice before Lindsey answered.

“Hey sweetie!” Lindsey said hugging me.
“Hey.”
“How was detention?” She asked, a smirk on her face.
“It was really funny.”
“Why?” She laughed.
“Because our teacher was really dumb and forgot to collect our phones so we all just kept texting eachother.”
“Oh boy. Well, don’t let it happen again,” she said, much more seriously.
“I’ll try my best.” She smiled at this reply and said,
“Dinner’s ready when you are! Bandit and I will wait for you to come down.”

I dropped off my stuff and ran downstairs to eat some homemade pizza. It was incredibly yummy! Over all, today was an awesome day.
