To The End

Chapter 24

I awoke to a loud, booming noise, reverberating through the entire cabin. I was alone in bed, and for a moment, I was frightened, thinking of guns and crazy maniacs. Then the boom sounded again, accompanied by a bright flash of light, and I calmed down immediately. It was only a thunderstorm.

I could hear voices outside, and struggled to sit up.In the semi-darkness, I watched through the window as Gerard, Mikey, Frank, Bob, and Ray worked to cover the pile of fire wood Frank and Charlotte had collected with the yellow mat which usually sat at the base of the ladder. I closed the window against the rain, listening as, together with a strong wind, it pelted the sides and ceiling of the cabin. A quick glance at my watch told me it was morning, though what with the dark of the storm, I would never have known otherwise. I got out of bed, and went to the overhead compartment, pulling out my fleece pants and BU hoodie, immediately pulling them on against the chill. With a shiver, I crawled back into bed, pulling the covers up over myself. Soon, I heard the guys running back across the sand, quickly climbing up the ladder into the cabin. A moment later, Gerard pulled back the curtain, shivering and drenched to the skin. I immediately got out of bed, and found my towel in the overhead, draping it around his shoulders.

"You're up!" he said in surprise, before kissing me lightly.

"Yeah," I replied. "The thunder woke me."

"I guess we're stuck in here today," he remarked, as he pulled off his wet clothes and began pulling on a pair of ripped, black jeans and a black tee shirt.

"I guess so," I replied, "but it's cold enough out there that I don't really care."

"So what are we gonna do today?" he asked.

"Dunno," I replied. "It's too dark to read."

"Well, I can think of one thing that doesn't require light," he said, smirking at me, before pulling me into a passionate kiss.

"Nuh uh! No way!" I heard Bob yell from across the aisle.

"Damn right, Bob, I am NOT listening to that!" Ray called.

"Bus rules, Gerard! Rule number one, NO BABY MAKING ON THE BUS!" shouted Mikey. We broke apart laughing.

"Oh yeah," I said sarcastically. "Don't worry, guys, I'm not an exhibitionist, no way I'm doing that in front of you all!"

"Then I guess you're in some trouble, Angel, cause Gerard is TOTALLY an exhibitionist!" Mikey replied.

"Only on stage!" Gerard said defensively.

"Yeah, he totally is, when he's up there. He constantly puts his hands down his pants, and this one time, when he was completely wasted, his pants actually fell down, and it was a long time before he pulled them up," Bob said.

"And he makes out with Frank constantly," Ray put in.

"Now THAT I wanna see!" Charlotte called, signaling that she too was awake. I laughed, and smirked at Gerard.

"Anything for you, babe," I heard Frank shout, and then I heard his pounding feet as he raced up the aisle, the curtain was thrown open, and Frank, knocking me aside, pounced on Gerard, pushing him to the bed, and proceeding to lick his face.

"Well, that explains a lot," I remarked wryly.

"Get the fuck off me, Frank," Gerard cried. "You're gonna scare Angel off!" I laughed, as Gerard pushed Frank off of himself, knocking him to the floor.

"Oh no, I'm enjoying this actually," I said.

"You'd think my girlfriend would come to my defense when I'm getting molested!" Gerard said accusingly.

"Ha! Gerard has a girlfriend! Gerard has a girlfriend!" Bob sang.

"Gee and Angel, sitting in a tree!" Mikey added. I sank down on the bed, covering my red face with my hands.

"Oh dear God! We've entered elementary school," I moaned.

"Technically," Frank said slowly, from his spot on the floor, "the only person to sit in a tree with Angel has been Charlotte. Not that I'm hinting or anything, but I think that's something we'd ALL like to see!" Charlotte's face appeared a moment later, walking over to me and planting a kiss on my lips. I jumped back a little in shock.

"Sorry, Koko, but he asked nicely," she said, laughing. I looked at Gerard.

"Yeah, you're right," I said to him. "Totally the female Frank.Kinda scary, actually!"

"You were talking about us behind our backs!" Charlotte cried in mock anger.

"Yeah, we were," I said, hands on my hips. "And I dare you to tell me you haven't been talking about US behind OUR backs, and keep a straight face."

"We haven't!" she cried, as she burst out laughing.

"My point is proven!" I replied smugly.

"So what are we gonna do, I gather we're stuck inside all day?" came Tori's sleepy voice from behind her curtain.

"We can play cards, I have some in my bag," Bob said.

"Ok," I heard Tori reply.

"If you're playing poker, I'm in," Charlotte said, turning tail and racing to their compartment.

"I'll play too," Mikey said. Soon, we had all broken up into different activities, Charlotte, Tori, Bob, and Mikey playing poker, Ray and Frank were working on some new melody in Ray and Mikey's compartment, and Gerard was sitting in the chair in the front "room", sketching. I sat in the open door, my back against one side of the door frame, my feet up against the other side, staring out at the stormy ocean, lost in my own thoughts. After a while, I turned my head, staring instead at Gerard.

"What are you drawing?" I asked. He looked up at me.

"You," he replied. I sighed, and smiled at him, before turning my face once again to the ocean. The storm had passed, but the rain continued. I watched the curls of smoke rising from the sand where the bonfire had now gone out. I sighed again, it was strange. Here I was, stranded, my best friend dead, my family most likely thinking I was dead, and yet, I was happier than I had ever been. My thoughts turned automatically to Zara. I was proud of her, if she'd had to take herself out, at least she'd had the courage to take that motherfucker out with her. I quickly wiped away a tear, and turned my thoughts to happier things. Like Gerard, and the future we had planned.

"Is this what it's like on your tour bus?" I asked out of the blue. He looked up again, and smiled at me.

"A little," he replied. "I mean, we have a TV and a radio and cell phones, and a fridge full of real food. But I guess it is kinda similar. Think you could handle it?" I smiled at him.

"I think so," I replied. "Is it a bad sign that I'm actually kinda happy here, even with all the drama? Does this mean I'm loosing my mind?" He laughed at me.

"I've been wondering the same thing," he said softly. "I think we're ok, you're as sane as I am."

"Oh that's a relief," I replied sarcastically, laughing and rolling my eyes, before turning my face to the sea once again.

Eventually, Gerard finished his drawing, and sat beside me in the doorway. We sat like that for a long time, my head resting on his shoulder, both of us silently staring out at the ocean, as the soft sounds of Frank and Ray's playing reached us. The day was long. We ate bananas and coconuts, drank water, and everything was, well, the same as the day before, with the exception that today, we were trapped inside. Eventually, night fell, and we all retired to our own compartments. Gerard and I lay side by side on the bed, he was propped up on his elbow, looking down at me.

"You know, you are incredibly beautiful," he whispered.

"So are you," I whispered back. He laughed softly.

"We're gonna have gorgeous kids," he said, and I laughed as well, before turning serious again.

"You really mean that? You're sure?" I asked softly.

"Of course I am! We've been through all that, my Angel. I love you," he replied. I smiled, and reached up and touched his face.

"Just making sure," I whispered. We were silent for a moment. "I think it stopped raining." He nodded, and we were silent again. "I love you, Gerard."

"I love you too, Sugar," he whispered, rolling onto his back, and pulling me close to him.

Notes

Yup. Filler. Sorry about that!
