He's Stuck in Neverland (full version)
Chapter 4
Gerard's P. O. V.
The two of us had finished eating brunch and we were still discussing my art when my phone rang. I checked the caller ID and saw that it was Mikey's school.
"I'm sorry, I have to take this," I apologized and answered the phone.
"Hello is this Gerard Way?" Asked a voice I recognized as the principal's.
"This is he. Did something happen?"
"Yes, Mikey was in a fight with an older boy, Matt."
"Is he okay? Was Frank there?" I asked in panic.
"I think you should come down here, Mr. Way."
"Yes, I'll be right there," I assured and hung up. "I'm sorry, Mr. Ferguson. There was a problem with Mikey and Frank. I have to go. I hope we can do this again?" I said and rushed out. I had already paid the bill so I just ran out. I jumped in my car and drove to Mikey's school.
I rushed inside. "The principal called me," I told the receptionist. She pointed to the principal's office and I hurried in. On one end of the room was a crying Frank, Mikey covered in blood and holding his nose, Ray trying to calm Frank and a blonde boy I assumed to be Mikey's friend Bob while on the other side of the room was a boy I recognized from down the street--also covered in blood and holding his nose--and the principal sitting behind his desk.
I walked over to Frank and Ray sat in his chair so I could calm him down. "Frankie," I whispered, pushing his hair out of his face. "Frankie. Frank. Shhh. Shhh. It's okay."
"Gee?" He mumbled, finally looking at me. "Gee!" He tackled me in a hug. I heard Matt scoff from across the room and mumble something that sounded like "crybaby".
"Mr. Pilsner, we do not need your comments."
"You don't know anything about Frank," I said, trying to keep calm. I picked him up and sat down with him in my lap. "Are you okay, Mikey?"
"Yeah. My nose is just bleeding." I turned to Ray and Bob. They both nodded. It seems that they weren't actually in the fight.
"I'm aware that Mr. Pilsner was the one who beat up Michael, but who punched him?"
"I did," Mikey and Bob said at the same time. They shot each other looks. I had to keep from laughing because I knew they were trying to keep each other from getting in trouble.
The principal, Mr. Archembau, looked between the two. "No offense, Michael, but I believe that Mr. Bryar did it. Not only was your nose already bleeding but his knuckles are bruised."
Mikey sighed. "Okay so Bob did it but he was just protecting me and I was protecting Frank. He said he was going to hit him."
I ground my teeth to keep from yelling or punching this kid. Who would want to hurt Frank? He was an innocent teenager with the mind of a child. He'd never done anything to anyone and he sure as hell didn't deserve this shit. Frank whimpered and pushed his face into my chest more. I rubbed his back, whispering calming things in his ear.
"Mr. Pilsner, do you know anything about Frank?" The principal asked.
"I know he lives with the two of them and he never goes to school."
"So you were not aware that he suffers from a mental disorder and that's why he doesn't attend school?" His face turned red and he mumbled a "no".
"What's wrong with him?" He asked.
"Mr. Way, would you like to explain?" Mr. Archambeau asked me.
I looked up at Matt for a minute and said, "he has Peter Pan Syndrome. He's mentally stuck at the age eight for the rest of his life."
"Well, why didn't he stay home?" I think his name was Matt, asked.
"Mr. Way had to go to work. He does have a job." Sassy principal.
"Where are his parents? Why didn't they watch him for the day?"
The principal didn't have an answer for this. "That's none of your business," I snapped.
Matt smirked. "His parents probably didn't want someone messed up like him," he said. Frank whimpered again and cried a little harder.
"Shhh, Frank. It's okay," I said hugging him.
"You don't know anything about him, Matt, so just shut up," Mikey growled. His nose had stopped bleeding now so he didn't sound all nasally when he talked.
"Why should I shut up? Because I'm right? His parents are probably out on vacation with yours, happy to not have kids anymore."
"His parents are dead," Mikey hissed. I didn't blame him but I hoped Frank wasn't listening. "That's why he's like this."
"Guh-Gee," Frank whimpered. "M-make them stop fighting."
"It's okay, Frank. They won't fight anymore." I stood up and picked Frank up. I mouthed to Mikey that I'd be back and took Frank out to the car. I put him in the backseat and sat with him. "He didn't hurt you, right Frank?" I asked.
"Nuh-no. M-Mikey stopped him. Buh-but Mikey is hu-hurt n-now!"
"Mikey is okay. He'll be okay."
"He was buh-bleeding! Be-because of me!"
"But when we left he'd stopped bleeding. And it wasn't because of you, Frank. That guy was a mean guy. He's never nice to Mikey."
"Are you suh-sure?" He asked, finally pulling his head from my chest.
"Would I lie to you, Frankie?"
"Nuh-no," he hiccuped and rubbed his eyes.
I smiled softly. "I know you don't want to go back in there, Frank, but I have to because I have to talk to him about Mikey. I'd rather not have you stay out here but you can. If you come in I'll make sure he doesn't touch you and that no one fights, okay? So what do you want to do?"
"I'll go in with y-you," he said, finally calming down.
"Okay. Lets go," I said, grabbing his hand and pulling him back into the school. I walked into the principals office and sat down with Frank in my lap.
"Thank you for returning, Mr. Way. After figuring out exactly what happened I've decided Michael and Mr. Toro, you two will not be punished. Mr. Bryar, you will receive a days detention instead of suspension."
"Thank you," the three of them said.
"What about me?" Matt asked.
"As for you, Mr. Pilsner. I'm expelling you from this school. You will finish out your year at Callumn Behavioral School."
"That's not fair!" He yelled. Frank whimpered and looked down so I started rubbing his back and whispering in his ear.
"Calm down Mr. Pilsner. You won't be there permanently."
"That's still not fair. I won't be able to get a scholarship with that on my record. Bryar punched me too and all he gets is a slap on the wrist?"
"He punched you in defense and this isn't the first complaint we've had about you, Mr. Pilsner." The principal turned to us. "The five of you may go now." I put Frank down and grabbed his hand and all of us left.
"Bob and I have to go to class but I think the three of you should go home," Ray said.
"Yeah, I'm taking you two home," I said. Mikey and Frank said their goodbyes and we all got in the car.
"I'm sorry, Gerard," Mikey mumbled.
"Sorry about what?"
"I got in a fight. And Frank could've gotten hurt."
"Mikey I don't care that you got in a fight because you didn't start it. And Frank felt bad that you got hurt protecting him." I smiled at Mikey and pulled into the driveway.
"Okay," he said and we all walked in the house.
