So Long & Goodnight
002
Today's a Sunday, no school or work. I can sit home and relax, or actually I can't. Kellin follows me around everywhere. I have no personal space. I step out onto the front porch, taking in a deep breath. The autumn air fills my lungs and I smile.
It's nice out today.
Kellin's right. It is nice out. I look across the small street in front of my house. There is a moving truck.
"New neighbors." I mumble.
Aren't you going to go over and say hi?
"N-no...I mean, I guess so."
I make my way across the street and take a step onto the other front porch. I go to knock on the door until I hear a voice behind me.
"You don't have to knock."
I cringe, but the voice doesn't sound familiar. I spin around and face the small boy behind me. He's around my age but shorter and he has tattoos all over his arms.
"H-hi. I'm Gerard."
"Frank."
"So you're our new neighbors?"
"Seems so."
I sigh, he seems nice enough.
Only because he doesn't know that you're crazy yet.
I force a smile, but Frank doesn't seem to notice.
"How old are you?" he asks.
"I'm 17."
"Oh, I'm 16."
"Ah, where are you going to school?"
"Belleville High."
"My brother and I go there."
"That's cool. So I'll be seeing you around?"
"Yeah."
I watch as Frank opens his front door and with a quick goodbye he closes it. I smile to myself. I might finally have a friend this year.
Don't get your hopes up...
