Something New
Gerard's P.O.V
I watched my brother carefully, noticing the smug smirk that didn’t leave his face and the dark glow of content in his eyes. He was being abnormally nice to me, which is what made me most suspicious.
“Why are you in such a good mood?” I asked, narrowing my eyes at him.
“What? Am I not allowed to be?” he asked, his grin growing wider.
“You’re never happy. You’re never this nice to me. What’s wrong with you?”
“Jesus Gerard, why does being in a good mood immediately mean there’s something wrong?”
“Because I know you.”
He sighed. “Whatever.”
“No! Don’t do that Mikey. Just tell me what’s happened!”
He rolled his eyes. “You’re fucking paranoid. No wonder everyone thinks you need to get locked up in a sponge room in a strait jacket.”
“Oh shut up,” I grumbled at him. “Just tell me what happened.”
“Nothing happened Gerard. Quit freaking out about nothing,” he snapped. “Now shut up and go back to sleep. I need to go home.”
“I’m not stopping you,” I muttered bitterly. “To be honest, I can’t wait for you to leave.”
He shot me a filthy look, which I only returned.
“Fine. Sorry for caring too much Gerard! I don’t see anyone else sitting at your bedside, do you?! I’m the only one who cares enough to stay here with you!”
“Well thanks a fuck-load for ‘caring’ Mikey. You’re a fucking liar! And I don’t even want you to be here! I don’t care whether or not anyone stays with me, so just go home!” I snarled at him.
He just clenched his jaw and shook his head. “You’re an idiot.”
He got up and snatched up his coat and turned sharply on his heel and marched towards the exit.
“Mikey! Wait!” I cried out suddenly.
He stopped but didn’t turn around and I could just imagine the expression on his face without even having to see it. “What?”
“Can you ask Frank to come back in?”
His shoulders tensed up and he didn’t answer. I rolled my eyes and waited for him to respond, but he didn’t.
“Oh come on Mikey, I’m not asking you a massive favour, I just-”
“Frank can’t see you right now Gerard,” Mikey cut me off sharply.
“What are you talking about? Where is he?”
“Frank didn’t feel well. I had someone to come and get him and take him back,” he said stiffly, still not turning around.
“Where did he go? What was wrong?”
“He just needed to go Gerard. Stop panicking, he’s fine. I’ll look after him,” Mikey said bluntly, before continuing to leave.
“Mikey, wait!”
The doors slammed closed and I slumped back into the bed, sighing heavily. My gut twisted with anxiety and dread.
*lalalalalalala LA LA LA do do do do do TIME LASPE!!!!!!*
I’d been here for nearly a week now. I was desperate and itching to get out. I needed to leave so badly. Mainly because I hated hospitals with a passion but because Frank had been gone for the entire week. What if there was something seriously wrong with him? People don’t just feel a little under the weather for the entire week. There was something really wrong if he’d been gone for this long. And what worried me even more was the fact I wasn’t there to make sure nothing happened to him. Every minute my mind was plagued with thoughts of what Mikey could be doing to Frank, what any of them could be doing to Frank. They detested him as much as any human, but even more so because of how close we were. It hadn’t ever been like this before. I’d always maintained a friendship relationship with people. But now it was different.
Now I was in love.
*Frank’s P.O.V*
My mouth and my throat were throbbing with dryness and felt beyond raw. My limbs felt heavy and I couldn’t stop my head pounding. I felt like I was dying. I felt like I was being flayed alive at one point and then frozen to death the next. Every time I opened my eyes the images in front of me were blurred and swirling mess and nothing. I struggled for breath, my lungs aching feeling ready to burst every time I sucked in sharp little breaths.
This must be the process of death.
“Frank?”
I couldn’t even open my eyes to see him, but I let out a groan as I tried anyway.
“Ssh, don’t. Just kept your eyes shut. It’s nearly over,” he murmured, a cold hand stroking through my hair.
“Hurts,” I breathed. “I’m dying.”
“No you’re not. You’re nearly there, I promise. It’s not long now,” he reassured me, his voice firm and insistent.
I whined in pain. “Make it stop. Make it stop Mikey, please. I can’t, please, I just-”
“Frank, shush. Just sleep. It’ll be over soon, I promise,” he cut me off, sighing impatiently. “Sleep. Now.”
I just swallowed and made a feeble attempt at nodding. I heard him sigh again and his weight shifted from the bed. I listened as he walked away, his footsteps growing fainter and fainter the further away he got. It had been like this for days. In fact, I couldn’t remember how long it had been like this. It felt like forever. It was like I’d been trapped in this bed in complete agony forever and Mikey had been telling me the same things since the beginning. It was killing me. If I wasn’t already dead.
My head was full of these thoughts for hours before I heard the door creak open again and footsteps approaching me.
“It’s just me,” Mikey said softly, his breath hitting my face as he leant closer to me. “Gerard is home.”
My eyes flew open and my body jerked at this piece of information, the most movement I’d managed since I’d gotten here.
And it fucking hurt.
I bit my lip to try and stop them scream, but my attempt failed. It burst through my lips and my entire being flared in indescribable pain.
“Frank!” Mikey hissed out, pushing me back onto the bed. “Stop it, you’ll make it worse!”
“Sorry,” I panted raggedly, tears starting to fall. “I’m sorry, God, I’m sorry, I didn’t-”
“Frank,” Mikey said warningly. “Stop it.”
“Is he better?”
“No. He wanted to come home and get treated here because he didn’t want to be at the hospital. They agreed he was well enough to let him come home. There’s a doctor and a nurse staying with him.”
‘Home’ was now an enormous mansion located in the richest and most private neighbourhood I’d ever seen. It was only temporary because the palace was being re-built and repaired.
“But he’s getting better?” I asked.
“Yes. Vampires heal quicker than humans or werewolves. As will you when this is all finished,” Mikey answered. “Frank… he… he wants to see you.”
“What?!”
“It’s OK, I’ll make sure he won’t see you, but… I should probably tell him.”
“No, Mikey, please! You can’t!”
“Frank, don’t be so fucking stupid. You can’t keep this a secret! What did you expect? You’d just waltz back in there and he wouldn’t suspect a thing?! Frank, he will know! He will know exactly what you are, you can’t just lie about something like this! How naive are you?!” Mikey snarled.
“But I can’t… Mikey, he’ll never forgive me for this.”
“He will. It’s me he won’t forgive.”
“He didn’t want this. This was the last thing he wanted, he’s going to be so mad!”
“Then we’ll deal with it, I told you. He’ll come round eventually and see it’s not a bad thing, I promise,” Mikey muttered. “You just have to trust me Frank. This isn’t going to work if you don’t believe in me.”
“I do. I’m just scared.”
“Frank,” Mikey whispered in my ear. “You know you have other options if he turns you away.”
I gritted my teeth. Mikey had reminded me every day that I was his. I was his because he had turned me.
“I don’t want to talk about this,” I mumbled.
Cool fingers trailed over my cheek with a feather soft touch, lips skimming over my temple with the briefest touch. “There’s point in avoiding this Frank. We have something now and it can’t be broken. You can try as hard as you want, but we have the strongest bond there is. This, Frank, this is stronger than what you think you have with Gerard. This is a hundred times stronger than love,” he said quietly but harshly.
“Frank. Death can’t even break what we have. You’re mine.”
“No I’m not,” I spat out through gritted teeth. “I’m not! I belong with Gerard. I don’t care what you think this means, but you’re nothing to me, nothing compared to what Gerard is.”
The hand that was trailing my face suddenly grabbed my jaw in a tight grip. “You really don’t know what you’re talking about. Why do you think Gerard didn’t want anyone but him to change you?”
I didn’t answer.
“I’ll fucking tell you why. Because it would mean you wouldn’t be his anymore. Because you would belong to someone else. I’m that someone else Frank. Get it in your head.”
I just clenched my jaw tightly and tried not to listen to him. He began to talk again but a deafening roar began in my ears and he voice faded away. Everything intensified. Each little piece of me that hurt became worse and my throat clenched tightly, the air getting starting to get stuck. I choked and my body began to practically vibrate, everything shaking uncontrollably. I tried to stop it but I was trapped. I could do nothing whilst my body shook and I choked on the air getting stuck in my throat and the noise in my ears smashed against my head.
And then silence. And then it was all gone. And then I was gone. Just silence. Nothing else. The pain was gone.
But it didn’t last long like that. The blissful floating feeling vanished within a few minutes and was replaced with a tingling sensation. Every part of my body was tingling, vibrating with some kind of new and overwhelming energy. I felt a hand on mine and it felt like sparks flew off from the contact. My vision became sharp and clear and Mikey’s face appeared in front of me.
“It’s over Frank. It’s finished, you’re one of us now.”
“I want to see him. Now.”
