Broken

All I Wanted Was You

Frank

I’d stayed with Gerard until he’d fallen asleep again. He’d needed blood and had gotten slightly difficult and awkward about it, refusing to feed in front of everyone else. I’d just rolled my eyes and waited until everyone had left until I crawled onto the bed next to him and very carefully settled myself close enough to him for him to reach my neck.

I think if he didn’t have so many broken bones he would’ve pinned me down and ravaged my neck, like we always ended up doing. Every time he bites me, we get carried away and only just about stop before anything happens.

My neck was currently tingling and throbbing slightly, two new fresh puncture marks on my neck. I was feeling tired and had been at the hospital for a long time. I could feel my eyelids drooping as I sank down onto a chair in the waiting area outside of Gerard’s room. I sighed and rubbed my eyes tiredly, blinking sleepily.

I flinched when a dark figure appeared in the corner of my eye, turning my head to look at him.
Mikey stood there, staring at me blankly before sitting down next to me.

“Tired, Frank?” he asked quietly.

I could feel his eyes on me, boring into the side of my face. “A little.”

He didn’t say anything, just sighed dramatically. I waited for him to say something again but he didn’t. I didn’t understand where things stood with me and Mikey. One minute he would ignore me, the next he would be seconds from ripping my throat out and the next he would be talking to me normally.

“Is he sleeping?” Mikey asked suddenly, his voice cutting through my thoughts.

“Yes,” I mumbled, scooting away from him slightly, not liking how close he was to me.

“Good,” he said and stood up suddenly. “Get up.”

I stared up at him in confusion, blinking blankly at him. “What?”

“You heard what I said. Get the fuck up and come with me,” he snarled.

I wanted to protest, but the look of rage in Mikey’s eyes was enough to shut me up and make me get to my feet and follow him.

He stalked along the corridor at a tremendous pace. If I had tried to walk like that, I would’ve looked down right stupid. But Mikey looked nothing but terrifying. His long legs ate up the ground beneath him with ease, his eyes locked forwards and his face set in an expressionless mask.

He turned suddenly and stooped outside of the relative’s room, throwing the door open and shoving me inside. My heart sped up a little when his long pale fingers locked the door and he turned to face me.

“Sit,” he commanded, sinking down into a chair.

I did as he said and sat down opposite of him.

“I think we need to finish our conversation, don’t we?” Mikey asked flatly, sending me an icy glare.

“I…”

“I think I was asking you where you and my brother had been, hadn’t I?” Mikey asked.

“I can’t remember,” I mumbled.

“Don’t lie, you know exactly what we were talking about. I’ll ask you again; where were you and brother?”

I swallowed, lowering my eyes to the floor. What would Gerard say? What would he tell Mikey?

I didn’t know.

“I’m waiting.”

I looked up at him, studying his blank face. “We went into the city.”

He rolled his eyes. “Where did you really go?”

“I’m not lying, I promise! We went into the city and we… we…” I trailed off, slumping back into my chair in defeat.

I couldn’t lie in front of Mikey. It was impossible. It was as if being sat in front of him meant the only thing I could do was tell the truth. I was terrified and every lie I could possibly tell him now would be obvious.

“I thought so,” he murmured contently, smiling slightly to himself. “Tell me Frank.”

“We… we went to see the werewolves,” I mumbled, hiding my face in my hands in shame.
What had I done?

“What?” Mikey asked sharply. “You did what?”

“We went to see the werewolves. The leader, Ryan, he… Gerard wanted to make a deal with him,” I answered shakily tears beginning to run down my cheeks.

“What did Gerard want?” Mikey demanded, leaning forwards intently.

I shook my head. “I can’t.”

“Yes you can,” he hissed. “You’re going to tell me everything!”

“I can’t!” I insisted, starting to sob.

Mikey’s lip curled up in a perfect snarl, sending daggers of fear straight into my heart.

“Why not?” he growled.

I just shook my head. He said nothing then and the room lapsed into silence apart from my quiet, weak sobs.

“What do you want Frank?” he asked suddenly.

“What?” I asked, startled, staring at him in confusion.

“Tell me what you want. If you could have anything in the world, what would it be?” he asked in the same scarily calm voice.

“I…”

“There must be something,” he told me. “Everyone wants something Frank. Everyone has a desire. Just tell me what yours is.”

Silence again. I stared at him in disbelief. Where was this going? Why was he suddenly asking me what I wanted when seconds ago he’d been screaming at me to tell him about the werewolves? I knew what I wanted. Before, I hadn’t wanted anything but to die. But now, it had changed. I wanted the exact opposite now.

“What I want?” I asked, my voice sounding unsure and shaky.

Mikey nodded slowly.

“I…I want to… n-no, I can’t, I-”

“Anything Frank. Just tell me what it is.”

“I want to be with Gerard,” I muttered under my breath.

“But you already are,” Mikey pointed out.

I shook my head. “I… forever. I want to be with him forever.”

I looked up at Mikey’s face and saw the grin of realisation spreading across his face slowly, his sharp, white teeth gleaming in the light.

“You want to be a vampire.”

I nodded.

Mikey's smile grew even wider and he sat back.

"I think I can help you with that," he said.
