NOTE TO WRITERS USING MENTAL HOSPITALS IN FICS
@CosmicConstellation
dido. I just got out of one. Crazy bitches unite! But um, there are cameras everywhere but the rooms and no touching is allowed.
Someone should put this on the main site. I still have the handbook from when I was locked up that has all of the rules and requirements in it. Not to mention the violent patients are kept in a separate ward from those that aren't. That's how it was in my hospital though. I don't know about others.
At the hospital I was in, there was wards for desperate ages too, the people who were desperate to kill themselves were kept in a room closest to the nurse's station and had a camera in it and throughout the night, nurses would check in on you, about every 15 minutes so the roommates couldn't do bad things and so they could make sure no one was self harming or trying to attempt. Also group therapy literally every fucking hour if you were in intensive impatient.
I've been reading a lot of fanfics on here that involve psych wards and are really inaccurate. I've been in psych wards a couple times, if you want any advice on what it's really like for your fic PLEASE ask cause it's hard to read when it's so off. Don't be scared I'd really love to help.
It's ok if your story's hospital is not exactly like a real one. But a few things:
• Hospitals have a no touch rule. Sometimes kids will be romantic but have to be REALLY sneaky
• You don't wear hospital gowns, you can wear your own clothes
• VITALS they take your vitals (blood pressure, heart rate, tempter) every day
Obviously make the hospital work for your fic but ahhh sometimes it's so off it hurts!
Any other tips for writing about hospitals? Any questions?
